It doesn't seem like more than a few weeks ago that Matt Ford was saying if the big clubs bent any further they'd break. Well, now it looks like Matt Ford, in his new guise as the saviour of British speedway, looks to have bent his own club further and has broken its back.

So we'll win jack but we'll have a nice guy in the team is what you're saying Squirlie - not at all, Skornicki is a quality act, he just had a bad year at Belle Vue in the season just gone. The year before he was one of the few positives at Oxford. He'll give his all, he'll be good for team spirit, and he'll turn up every week. Good move by Matt Ford - especially if the alternative was that waste-of-space Watt.

Hey - welcome to our world - that seems to be CVS' mantra! ;D Seriously, I'm not saying that - heaven knows it's what I moan about our promotion for (following heart rather than head!) but Adam is a good solid second string who had a really crap 2007 and should increase his average in 2008....seems to be what you need to me!

Really, really surprised by this signing. Skornicki is a very good reserve though and if thats where he's starting the season will probably increase his average quite a bit, he's never convinced me riding as a second string and for much of last year seemed to be 'going through the motions' for Belle Vue.

Well it would appear Team Building for 2008 hasn't gone smoothly for Matt Ford, with other teams changing their plans affecting his team decisions. From today's Bournemouth echo:
Ford let down by late change of plans By Phil Chard
PIRATES chief Matt Ford has revealed his "disappointment" that negotiations with an undisclosed target broke down at the 11th hour.
The Wimborne Road supremo would not disclose who the rider was.
But it is believed to have been Rory Schlein, who starred in Coventry's treble-winning team this year and has an average of 7.74.
advertisement Ford said: "I was very disappointed with the situation where a rider I thought was coming didn't.
"It happened four or five days ago when at nine o'clock at night I had a call from his promoter to say that it was happening, the rider was coming to Poole.
"I went to sleep believing a deal had been done, but at nine o'clock the following morning things had changed."
Linking that setback with Troy Batchelor's loan switch from Poole to Swindon in 2008, Ford added: "I've been asked so many times why did we let Troy go?' But Troy wasn't ours to let go.
"He was King's Lynn's rider, and King's Lynn were going to come up into the Elite League right up to the night before the BSPA conference and he was going to ride for them.
"At that stage, we had gone down a different line, which, unfortunately fell out of bed very late in the day when Coventry decided to make changes in letting Scott Nicholls go to Eastbourne and keep one of their other riders.
"If we had known earlier King's Lynn weren't coming up we would certainly have made an attempt to keep hold of Troy.
"But we had gone in a different direction because it looked like the club would be signing a second heat leader."

The signing of Skornicki by the greatest promotion known to mankind defys belief and common sense. Skornicki went through the motions for Belle Vue last year, cant imagine he'll be hugely motivated next year either. But starting at reserve, which is the only position where he excels he could spring a surprise. He's never scored much at Wimbourne Rd AFAIK

Not convinced it'll be Boxall but then I've been totally wrong so far so that's no indicator. Matt reckons he's interested in a new untried rider and doesn't want to have two wobblers at reserve so there could be a 4 pointer in there too. Pfah, what the heck? Couldn't give a rat's arse who we sign now tbh. It's all a pile of cack and if we get girlyboy too I think i'll scream - keep thinking this is a bad dream and i'm going to wake up soon. Still, the struggling teams from last year seem happy though - they seem all nice and sorted after cherrypicking from the rest of the league so that's OK then

Well, judging from the above article, it looks like Matt Ford is a bit disgusted with the way things are going in his brave new world and is being very indiscreet. When we interviewed a rival promoter he refused to name the PL club that was set to go EL, now Matt Ford is telling everyone it was King's Lynn (which, I admit, most people could guess). Then early in the article he refuses to name the rider, but later in the article makes it obvious to anyone with the meanest of intelligence that it was Schlein. I suspect Matt Ford has regrets over the BSPA AGM.

I hope you haven't included us in the cherry picking teams, we've only signed our own assets so far

Think she means Iversen, Badge. Will be interesting to see if he and Bjerre get a spot now, but at least with those two available, Wolves still has options.
