But that merely presumes any illness is false, if any working man/woman phones in sick for a day, they are not told they must take the whole week off. Don't make me defend the rules, cos I think they are shite...but as I already said, I would go the other way and get rid of ALL guests and make teams use riders that were signed to them, not borrow riders from other clubs they are competing against in the League....that's just stupid.

What and the current system is not ? what constitutes a speedway injury ? why would it be out of the question for an illness to not be an acceptable excuse ? and bottom line, if i am enticed to 'the speedways' to watch the league leaders and their unbeatable captain Leigh Adams, and it turns out he is replaced by a conference rider, i am going to feel shortchanged, i wouldn't give a fuck what the reason for his absence was. Have the rules changed? I was under the impression that back in the old days illness WAS an acceptable excuse, it's just that the rider couldn't return to the team for a certain period of time after the illness, to prevent the "one day sicky" to avoid the disliked track. HenryW - and this is a rule which needs tighening back up. It used to be 14 days, and used to be enforced. These days, too many times riders are alllowed to return and ride the following day. Again it leaves the sport open to ridicule.

Hatcham - if you look, both Sub and myself have, it would be too open to abuse. But Leigh Adams hasn't missed a league meeting since the Magna Carta was signed.

But you cant replace an under-performing heat leader with Gollob, Crump or Pedersen I'm probably just being a bit dim here, but I don't follow your point. What I was meaning was that Crump would have signed for Belle-Vue as their number one this year and just popped in for a few matches when he felt like it, leaving them to cover him with guests for the rest of the season. Expand that out and why bother having teams sign anyone. Just let them pick 7 random riders for each match they race in... Is that not what the 'average system' forces up to do on a yearly basis anyway ?

I can't. I can't find any way to justify the ridiculous nature of borrowing riders from a team that you are supposed to be competing against in the league. I can't find a way to justify the idea that one day I can watch a rider racing for Team A and the next day watch him race for Team B when he is actually a member of Team C's regular 1-7. You need to find someone who thinks the concept of a guest is a good one, as the only thing that I can think is that they want to restrict the use of this abomination of a rule because it makes the sport look absolutely laughable.

A bit of role play? What does HenryW dressing up as a sailor or whatever you want him to do, have to do with the guest rule? ;D Sorry, back to being serious. Hatcham, it would quickly reduce British Speedway to being even more of a joke. Where's Davey tonight? He's visiting his gran. Where's Lewis tonight? He's watching Mama Mia. No thank you, the rules should be tightened not loosened, for the sake of credibility. No wonder the media won't touch our sport with a bargepole - and you want to make it even worse.

So in other words you agree with me Henry, you dont like the rule, feel it makes a mockery of the sport, but IF it IS to exist you cant really distinguish between its validity over injury, illness or alternative committments.

There is roleplay other than sexual roleplay Genghis, and if someone dressing up as a sailor works for you then fine, but its not my 'cup of tea'. IF A GUEST SYSTEM is in place, you still cannot tell me why it matters why someone is absent, anyone on here who is employed would not tell their boss they wouldn't be at work because they were going to see Mama Mia, and expect to get away with it so why should Bridger ? The media dont touch our sport because its so unpopular not because of the stupid rules(all sports have stupid rules) Oh and by the way, blokes dressing up as sailors and Mama MIa !! are you trying to tell us something?

Excuse me, but your brought up the subject of role-play, not me. And why is speedway unpopular? The excitement of four blokes hurtling around a track remains undimmed, so I suggest it IS the stupid rules, in particular guests, the tactical ride, etc which have driven many fans away, along with the ever-increasing costs of admission.

Its still popular with me Genghis, but not for most people, my missus came with me to Seattle the other week, and brought her book to read. As for the ever increasing costs, explain why 28,000 plus people turn up at the likes of Derby County to witness the shit they serve up on a weekly basis, at a much higher cost. And when role play was mentioned you immediately imagined HenryW as a sailor. Your fantasy not mine.
