A shame "mighty Mort" didn't think about it a bit sooner. Now that Joe Screen is no longer around, the Aces should be a bit more athletic anyway.

Let's hope so Sub and we all know that this talk of Joe Screen feeling fitter now he's at Poole is exactly that....talk. He's simply telling them all what he told us on the eve of every season since 2004.

The Aces claimed their first win of the 2009 season last night beating Sheffield 41-37 in the Question Of Sport - War Of The Roses. I didn't go and there's not much info about it on the Aces forum apart from Rob B having a moan because he could only see half the screen. Sounds like it was a right barrel of laughs then

From the Aces website:
BELLE Vue have been rocked by an eve-of-season training crash which has left Swedish star Billy Forsberg with a broken wrist.
It has forced the One51 Aces to make an enforced move back into the transfer market to sign experienced Danish rider, Henning Bager, on a short-term contract.
Forsberg, 20, was hurt when he fell while riding his moto-cross bike as part of his preparations for the new season which starts with a challenge match at Glasgow on Sunday afternoon.
He had hoped the injury would heal sufficiently for him to suffer a only minimal delay to his start to the season but he has been told by a specialist not to consider riding again until next month.
The Aces' management had to act sharply to find a replacement and name him in their declared team to open the season.
Bager, 28, fits the bill because he has plenty of British experience. He is expected to have seven or eight meetings in Belle Vue colours before Forsberg is fit to return.
Bager has ridden in Britain since 2001, when he started at Glasgow, and he rode 23 meetings for Peterborough in the Elite League last season before finishing with Premier League spells at Birmingham and Berwick.
Aces' supremo David Gordon said: “Forsberg's injury is a real blow. It happened when he was out training on his moto-cross bike but he had hoped to recover in time for the start of the season.
“However, he has told us it hasn't responded to treatment as quickly as hoped so we looked at who was available and approached Lakeside, Bager's parent club, for permission to sign him.
“We have told him it's only until Forsberg is fit again. We will be monitoring Billy's progress closely because we don't him rushing back before he is really fit and ready. It's not in his interests, nor Belle Vue's.
“But it does give Bager the chance to put himself in the shop window for British clubs because he hasn't got a club over here at the moment.”

It's a 28 day contract for Bager . Nobody seems entirely sure when this accident actually happened and if initial reports are to be taken from today then we'll need Henning for longer than 28 days. Poor Billy....everytime he gets injured it's always his hands/wrist area and it always take him at least 4-5 meetings to get back up to speed when he returns. I'm just glad the management have acted quickly instead of the nightmare we had last season with the Boxall injury scenario.

Press and Practice took place yesterday. It started off badly with the news that Ulrich Ostergaard and Henning Bager had been involved in an accident on the M8 returning from Glasgow. Thankfully, both riders are fine but their van appears to have been written off and nobody knows the extent of the damage to their bikes and other speedway equipment.
Rain delayed P&P for an hour. James Wright was the first one changed into his kevlars and on track for his photos followed by Hougaard, Gjedde, Kasprzak. Boxall and Grajczonek were the last ones out for the photocall. Stadium still looks as shabby as ever but good news is that the 3rd and 4th bend terracing is being cleared and should be soon able to use. It's a good view from up there.
Track was heavy early on and riders were struggling with the first and second bends. Gjedde almost came a cropper on his first run out. Grajczonek hit the deck at his first go on the track but got up ok and was soon blasting round. Kasprzak put in more track time than anyone and looked real good. A lot of the spectators (which there were only a handful) commented on how good he looked and how fast he was going.
Roll on Monday I say.

Youngy,
On Good Friday, I am attending Bury v Shrewsbury at Stade de Gigg at 3pm.
How far is Kirky Lane from Bury - distance and time. If time allows, I'll catch the Aces' Good Friday fixture. Also on past record, how long do these meetings take? Good Friday meetings take an ages normallly and my main priority is to go Bury FC.

Best bet would be to get a tram from the City Centre to Bury and from Bury to Gigg Lane via cab would be your best bet. Ignore that if you're driving though. The Aces good Friday meeting starts at 12pm so will probably run for at least 2 hours, that's without incidents. You could get to Gigg Lane from Kirky Lane within the hour but it would be cutting it fine.

I noticed the articles doesn't mention which riders. It's time to name and shame Mort. If we, the fans bar the odd few, can see who's not going to produce the goods for us in '09 then why can't you? Mort will never stand down as team manager as long as he has a financial stake (however small that may be) in Belle Vue and his buddy David Gordon is in charge. Some dullard wanted us to get in Jim Lynch in. FFS...it's not that desperate a situation.....yet!!!

Billy Forsberg is back....... Billy Forsberg, Belle Vue's top young Swede, makes a delayed start to his Elite League campaign next Monday when he returns to action in the home match against champions Poole at Kirkmanshulme Lane (7 30).
Henning Bager, signed as a short-term replacement when Forsberg broke a wrist in pre-season training, has been released by the One51 Aces to make way for him.
