So what are the possible outcomes? Well, the fight for the top four is down to five teams: Poole, Lakeside, Swindon, Ipswich and Eastbourne, although the Witches would have to have a very poor run to lose fourth place where they're currently sitting.
1..Poole..31..14..0..2..8..0..7..1562-1269..52 2..Lakeside..29..13..0..1..7..1..7..1407-1246..48 3..Swindon..31..12 2..2..5..0..10..1455-1382..41 4..Ipswich..28..10..0..4..4..2..8..1294-1264..34 5..Eastbourne..30..10..0..4..4..0..12..1353-1398..32
Fixtures remaining are:
Poole:
25.09.08..Ipswich v Poole
Lakeside:
17.09.08..Lakeside v Wolverhampton 18.09.08..Peterborough v Lakeside 19.09.08..Lakeside v Peterborough
Swindon:
22.09.08..Coventry v Swindon
Ipswich:
15.09.08..Wolverhampton v Ipswich 22.09.08..Peterborough v Ipswich 25.09.09..Ipswich v Poole 25.09.08..Ipswich v Coventry
Eastbourne:
20.09.08..Eastbourne v Coventry TBA..Eastbourne v Wolverhampton
Can the Witches hang on to fourth place? I guess that depends on whether they have a full team for their remaining fixtures. Same with the Hammers - it's possible they could actually top the league (in fact this could come down to points difference), but injuries are going to prove the stumbling point.

Thanks for that. Just spent ages on the BSPA site trying to work out who was where and gave up in the end.
A Poole win at Ipswich should pretty much sort out the order, although Eastbourne would remain a threat to Ipswich if that happened. Ipswich just need to beat Coventry at home to secure fourth looking at the points diff.

Both Eastbourne and Lakeside should pick up points at home against Wolves. It all depends on whether Hampel is riding for Ipswich as to whether they can win any of their remaining fxtures. If they can beat Wolves away they should have done the job. If not I can see this going to the wire. If Peterborough field a full strength team against a depleted Witches side, you'd have to fancy the home team.
With Poole likely to beat Ipswich at home, it could be down to that final meeting against Coventry. This is the second match of a double-header for the Witches, and with them being tired from already racing against Poole, and possible machinery gremlins (hopefully no injuries), it's going to be a nail-biting end to the season.
Swindon are through, it's just a case of who they meet. So who do you fancy, Grachan - Poole or Lakeside?
An interesting picture at the bottom of the league too, with four teams fighting against relegation.
6..Belle Vue..31..12..0..3..0..2..14..1373-1451..26 7..Coventry..26..8..2..4..1..0..11..1139-1231..21 8..Peterborough..27..8..1..3..1..0..14..1115-1323..20 9..Wolverhampton..27..8..0..7..0..0..12..1165-1299..16
Belle Vue only have one fixture remaining - against Coventry. Realistically they should be okay, but Wolves are going to have their work cut out to avoid that bottom spot.

Same with the Hammers - it's possible they could actually top the league (in fact this could come down to points difference), but injuries are going to prove the stumbling point. For what its worth, here is my take, witches and seahawks supporters will obviously be very keen to take fourth spot but for them equally important is who finishes top, as a trip to poole means simply extending their seson by one game whereas a trip to lakeside hinges on what sort of side the hammers can track, ipswich have already been victorious at lakeside this season and bridger and kennett have both been getting plenty of practice there lately. For swindon who finishes top is just as vital, i feel a trip to wimborne road in a one off will end their season but a trip to the injury ravaged hammers could see them sneak through and if they were to face poole over two legs and IF pavlic is still at reserve they just could wipe the smile of shovlars face.

Swindon are through, it's just a case of who they meet. So who do you fancy, Grachan - Poole or Lakeside? Well, as we're going to be away from home - neither! If I look at it, Poole have consistently turned us over this year whereas we did get a result at Lakeside - even if it was mainly through that remarkable performance from Pavlic who will be a heatleader for the play-offs. Leigh Adams always puts in a top class performance there too, so if Pavlic can score well again, Leigh can be unbeaten, and Mads and Troy can chip in with a heat win apiece then it's not beyond us to win there. We may struggle at reserve though, which was our strength last time. Poole look strong, and I've had them as likely winners all year. In Eriksson, Skornicki, Zetterstrom and Davidsson, however, they do have 4 riders who might not perform on the night (wishful thinking I know!) so you never know. At the end of the day, if we perform well I think we can win a Lakeside, but it would need Poole not to perform for us to win there. So I'd have Lakeside as it's more in our court to do it. End of the day we're probably looking at a Poole v Lakeside final though. Swindon have done well to reach the play-offs this year despite all the negative comments about their team at the start of the year. Personally I always quite liked the was the side was made up, but even I didn't expect third place.

Well I' assuming home wins and away defeats for the bottom 4... to end up as below... Belle Vue – currently have 26 pts Homes – Coventry Aways – Lakeside Likely finishing total = 28pts Coventry – currently have 21 pts Homes – Swindon & Wolves Aways – B Vue, Eastbourne, Ipswich, Peterborough, Likely finishing total = 25pts Wolves – currently have 16 pts Homes – Ipswich Aways – Coventry, Eastbourne, Lakeside, Peterborough, Likely finishing total = 18pts Peterborough – currently have 20 pts Homes – Lakeside, Coventry, Ipswich & Wolves Aways – Lakeside, Likely finishing total = 28pts =6. Belle Vue 28 =6. Peterborough 28 8. Coventry 25 9. Wolverhampton 18 Mind you I was looking forward to another EOES fixture verses Wolves in the Relegation play off!

Mind you I was looking forward to another EOES fixture verses Wolves in the Relegation play off! I don't think there is a play-off for that is there? The top four Premier League teams play-off for the chance to meet the bottom placed Elite team for the spot in the Elite League, isn't it?

I think the top 4 play-off in PL and the bottom 2 play-off in the EL.

Next thing we'll be having play-offs for 5th-7th, and play-offs to determine who makes the play-offs. Why not just have the bottom EL team v the top PL team?
Actually, it's probably to prevent some of the PL teams who don't want to go up from having to fix it so they don't win the league. Bizarre.

I think the top 4 play-off in PL and the bottom 2 play-off in the EL. You are correct Young Marron... Think too many domestic chores have clouded the first lady's usually incredibly sharp speedway brain ;D

8th versus 9th in a relegation playoff = EL team in playoff relegation/promotion battle
Top 4 of PL have a semi and final = PL team in playoff relegation/promotion

So Coventry drop down into the bottom two as Peterborough beat them on Monday, and Ipswich sealed their play-off place and added to Wolves' misery by beating them at Monmore.

Hahahahahah! Coventry to the PL!! Whoever finishes bottom of the elite will without doubt beat the premier league winners, the standard in the elite may be very poor but the premier is shocking.
