Was obvious what Alonso was up to... and holding up another driver during qualifying IS a matter for the stewards. This wasn't the same situation as one driver holding up another on on the track, though. It was an incident that took place inside the McLaren pit area, which is one reason why I say that it is a team matter. Hamilton chose to come into the pits when his team mate was already occupying the pit stall, then chose to wait for Fernando to leave. He didn't have to do either of these things...

HenryW, Is Lewis going to change all four tyres by himself then The pits are a live part of the racetrack during both qualifying and the race... it's possible to pick up penalties for pit behaviour... and Alonso should be handed a penalty. All the best Rob

Hang on I doth protest... I am just getting my head around what Schumi started this thread with 'Hungaroring - deliberation and anticipation' Methinks, she knew something we did not boys. F1 priestess.... We are not worthy.......... ;D ;D ;D (I think she is really a bit of an Alister Campbell working for Ecclestone on the QT.. ) It all makes sense now. Don't deny it Schumi - we have you sussed now. ;D

Always intrigued what Schumi comes up with as the tagline for each race - I reckon she's got a ruddy big thesaurus. All the best Rob

He didn't have to change tyres, though.... My point is, it's up to the teams to decide their pitting strategy in both the race and the qualifying. It is up to them to ensure that the crews are ready and the pit box is clear. If one of their drivers decides to piss around in the pits and causes a problem for their strategy for their other driver, that should be a matter for the team to deal with, NOT the F1 Big Brother.... You can be sure that the team will hand out a suitable penalty if Fernando has gone against their wishes, and I think that is as far as it should go.

He didn't have to change tyres, though.... Yes he did, how the fuck is Lewis supposed to go faster than Alonso on an old set of tyres?? All the best Rob

Yes he did, how the fuck is Lewis supposed to go faster than Alonso on an old set of tyres?? Well, he almost certainly wouldn't be able to....but that doesn't change the fact that when drivers pit and how many laps they do on a set of tyres is a strategic decision taken between team and driver. If two team mates end up in the pits at the same time, with one being delayed by the other, I believe that is an internal issue for the team, not something that needs to be dealt with externally.

Seems that Ron has decided that he doesn't want the officials sticking their oar in either, given his public statements :
“Fernando was being counted down by his engineer,” Dennis told reporters at the Hungaroring.
“He’s under the control of his engineer. He determined when he goes. That’s the sequence.
“And if you think that was a deliberate thing, then you can think what you want. I have given you exactly what happened.”
Dennis said it was Hamilton’s failure to stick to the agreed procedure during the fuel-burning phase of Q3 that was the catalyst for the delay.
“We have various procedures within the team and prior to practice we determine how it is going to be run, what our strategy is, and how that’s going to be enacted on the circuit,” he said.
“They were out of sequence because Lewis should have slowed and let Fernando past,” he said.
“And he didn’t. He charged off. That’s how we got out of sequence.”

Well Ron's post race reaction contradicts what he's released after talking to his advisors. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

Reading between the lines of Ron's official statements, it seems that Fernando's team decided to screw with Hamilton because he went against team orders and failed to let Fernando past earlier in the session.
