NICKI PONDERS ELITE Three-time world champion Nicki Pedersen could make a dramatic return to the British Elite League with Peterborough this season, if Panthers and Coventry take their places in the competition. The two clubs have confirmed they will make an announcement on their 2011 plans this Tuesday, and it is believed promoters have voted overwhelmingly in favour of bringing them back into the Elite. This comes after a winter of turbulence for the sport in Britain, which saw the Bees and Panthers fall out with the BSPA over controversial rule changes, Sky television revenue and their calls for an independent body to oversee the sport’s rulebook. Should the teams be handed a last-second invitation to join the Elite, they will both need to assemble sides fast. Coventry are reported to have lined-up Hans Andersen as their No.1. But the deal of the winter could see his arch-rival Pedersen join Peterborough – three years after he walked away from British racing at the end of 2007. The SGP star admits he would not consider a deal if the fixture list involves the 10 Elite clubs racing each other home and away twice, as well as staging play-off, Knockout Cup and challenge meetings. But if this is cut in half as expected, Pedersen is open-minded about gracing the UK scene again. The Stevenage-based racer said: “It’s hard to say. I had a call when King’s Lynn were planning to go up and then Peterborough needed some riders. I had a chat with them some time ago, but they got turned down and the plans all went out. “Even now they don’t know what’s happening. There was supposed to be a meeting about it last week. “There’s nothing on paper, but if somebody rings, I will take the decision from there. Until it’s announced that anyone is up and running, I don’t want to think about it. “If they do 44 or 45 meetings as they have done in the past, then it is never going to happen. “But if they only do the A fixtures and it’s about 25 meetings, then it could happen if somebody rings me. Until the fixtures are out and we know something about it, I don’t want to contemplate it.” speedwaygp.com/en/newsdetail/a2470

What I don't understand is that to have announced that they are making an announcement means they have reached a decison! ? So why do we have to wait another 3 days?? !!! Aaarghhhhhh!!!! I'd imagine that the i's need to be dotted and the t's crossed and that is what causing the delay........however, with only one i to dot, it shouldn't take that long.

“But if they only do the A fixtures and it’s about 25 meetings, then it could happen if somebody rings me. That's an interesting quote from Nicholas......so if that happens, will season ticket holders at other tracks get a refund as there will be far less meetings to go to ? Another consideration here is that Coventry & Peterborough may actually have an advantage when building their teams. Riders such as Pedersen, Jonsson, Hancock, Crump, Hampel and maybe even Gollob, Sayfutdinov or Laguta could be tempted to ride if there are fewer meetings to commit to, whereas the other teams needed them to agree to far more.

Surely they wouldn't do/agree to that at the last minute?? Is young Nicholas stirring or has the jouro in question mistyped (intentionally or not) Nicki saying that if he is asked to do half a season he'd consider it? Gawd knows!!! Pip

Is young Nicholas stirring or has the jouro in question mistyped (intentionally or not) Nicki saying that if he is asked to do half a season he'd consider it? As you say, if this is an accurate account of what Nicki said, my interpretation is not that he has been asked to do half a season, but a full season comprising of each team riding the others once at home and once away. I must stress that is how I read it.......any other opinions ?

Maybe the Evil Dane means that he is going to pick & choose his meetings, like he used to at Eastbourne. In the meantime, how many fucking more D-Days are we going to bloody well have

I am tempted to say that I cannot believe the BSPA have changed the whole format of the league at this late stage, but unfortunately I don't have that confidence in them anymore, and it's entirely possible that they have. Of course the two clubs who have caused all this aggravation in the first place now have an opportunity to field sides 'at any cost' in an attempt to romp the league and say 'up yours' to the other promoters - should they wish! I guess we'll find out on Tuesday. I anticipate seeing both sides back in, and fielding strong line ups.
