From today's Coventry Telegraph.... COVENTRY’S speedway future could be clearer following top-level talks at BSPA headquarters today. The Buildbase Bees, the reigning Elite League champions, are currently out of this year’s competition following a stormy AGM last November in which they and Peterborough walked out in protest over new regulations. With King’s Lynn elevated to the top flight to bring it up to the required eight-team level, the consistent position of the BSPA has been that there would be no way back for either the Bees or the Panthers in 2011. The two clubs took legal advice and the parties came together for talks prior to Christmas which resulted in a joint statement hinting that an amicable solution was still possible. That will, however, require the agreement of the other teams, and we understand that representatives of all current Elite and Premier clubs will be present at today’s talks. It is clear that should a positive resolution be reached, at least one of the two sides will have to substantially revise their position and the input of the respective legal teams could well have an important bearing. A previous Coventry statement said they would “seek legal redress as advised by our specialist legal team and specialist counsel” if the dispute remained unsolved. Bosses of both the Bees and the Panthers, led by Rick Frost, have remained confident in their case and also keen to stress that it is their wish to run Elite League speedway this year. Today’s events could bring that prospect closer to a reality – but they could also send the sport ever closer to a time-consuming, costly and damaging legal battle. I wait with baited breath but, frankly, don't think that this statement will be the end of it either Pip

www.peterboroughpanthers.co/The beginning of the end I fear It's loosely worded, but it sounds to me like we might not be seeing any Elite and possible Premier League speedway in the UK next year. This will take ages to go to court, and in the meantime, my take on it is that the 'injunction' referred to will prevent the league from going ahead with the rules as agreed at the AGM. Absolute nightmare situation!

I feel very sorry for the Scumboro and Coventry fans but for once (and probably the only time) I back the BSPA.
If the 2 promotions were so unhappy with the way the sport is being and has been run why did they only pipe up when it adversely affect their prospective team choices?
As a matter of principle I believe that you should never give in to blackmail and from what I've read, Coventry's (not too sure about Scumboro they seem to have been a bit more distant) stance was play it the way we want or we will stop you all from playing at all.

Absolute nightmare situation! I agree.....we've ended up with the scenario where nobody wants to lose face and it would appear that all parties are prepared to go the distance. If this action means there is no professional speedway in the UK in 2011, it will surely kill the sport (as we know it) in this country. Speedway won't have fulfilled it's contract with Sky, and even if there are no penalty clauses in the contract, they would be most unlikely to come back. Stadia up and down the country would be lost to the sport, either because they close, the planning consent ceases or they find alternative attractions. The riders will either ride on the continent or find alternative employment and any hope of attracting the top riders back in the future would be almost zero. I could go on, and probably will .......but the ONLY winners in this will be the lawyers !!!

I take offence to my team being called "Scumborough" And who said anything about blackmail??

Sorry if the word Scumboro upset you Zonkers maybe it wasn't the most sensitive time to use it altho many Lynn fans have used it for years (and I have used it here before) much the same as Lynn is called Compost Corner. As for blackmail IMHO from what I've read I can think of no other term that describes the actions of someone who doesn't like a desicion made in the same manner as for several previous years and says do it my way or I'll take you to court and stop the lot of you.
FWIW it's my personal opinion that Mr Frost is a "minor" partner in all this. He alledgedly wanted to run PL or NL which to me suggests that he was willing originally to abide by the decision of the AGM and then seemed to get caught up in the furore that followed. I could be wrong as like most people I wasn't at any of the meetings and only those that were actually know what happened. I sincerely hope this can be resolved and Scumboro race this year, if not as I've said before I fear that the sport will be lost in the city and I enjoy my visits to the Showground.

Well actually, most of the time it's "that six-fingered lot from Compost Corner". I can fully understand Zonks being a bit sensitive about the issue at the moment, though. It's so bloody frustrating. It's about time someone banged the heads of messers Sandhu, Frost, Ford, etc together and told the stupid bastards to grow up How fucking cares what assesed average Pzejtiahnjlaw fucking Pawlicki is on

Bang on the money Genghis. This playground scrap has now reached a point where the repercussions will damage everything to do with the sport. The only vaguely positive thing that may now come out of this is the instatement of an independant governing body and, even then, only if the potential recommendation for one is carried out and then, even more worryingly, only if Sandhu and Frost win what could be a long drawn out court battle that could see the sport in the shitter anyway Otherwise what have we got? 1) BSPA wins court case - Nothing changes (with the likely end of Cov and P'boro) 2) Sandhu and Frost win - Nothing changes (with a hideous precedant set in that democrasy is actually bullshit and counts for nothing) This has got so many more miles to go I fear Pip

After all, King's Lynn were tempted to move up on receiving a particular sum. I do see a massive inconsistency. On one hand, the two clubs are pleading poverty, saying they can't run without the Sky dosh, on the other, they have employed a very, very, very expensive lawyer. As I said throughout I believe there is blame on all sides, and nobody will come out of this affair with any credit. However, it has to be said, that the actions of the Coventry and Peterborough promotions is not going to win them any sympathy votes. It's time for them to put their toys back into the pram and grab the olive branch that they have been thrown.

After all, King's Lynn were tempted to move up on receiving a particular sum. . Not just KL. Presumably all the other teams have worked out their budget on the basis of an 8 way cut of the Sky money. For any of them to have to lose a chunk of that budget would IMHO be grossly unfair.
