Trees to be honest, I was so busy I didn't get to hear any of that. I was working my lil socks off from 9.45am until the end of the last heat - and I won't get to hear any of the speeches/interviews until I buy the DVD!

Well, was it a good afternoon Squirlie? Full house? Good racing, and more importantly all riders safe and sound?

I think so Badge. What I did see I enjoyed, and will be looking forward to watching the DVD for the bits I missed! It looked a healthy crowd for sure - solid all the way around the track. Have no idea on numbers although some people are saying 3000 - it did look more than that in my opinion anyway... Only Zabik took a heavy-ish knock and didn't come out again. I don't think he was badly hurt, just winded but I've not heard more since then. The racing I did see I enjoyed and there was some serious jostling going on at times. As I said earlier, yes there were some processional heats, but also some good battles which I don't think the updates often manage to convey. Nothing against the updaters, just a general observation I've thought for a while - for example there was a cracking heat with Hans when he was diving across another rider time and time again coming out of the bends (it might've been with Nicki), but no mention of that in the updates. Whether it's because of where I am that I see it more i don't know.

Good, hopefully it was enjoyed by all who attended. My God what promoter wouldn't wish for 3000 fans to attend meetings. Hope young Karol is OK anyway. Well the season can now start proper, now this big season opener has taken place. It seems eons ago it was first announced, and it seemed eons away, well it's been and gone

Yep, although I think next year i'd like a slightly less stressful one to ease me into the season One thing to add - all the ex-riders got a cracking reception - the likes of Rosco, Lars, Martin Yeates etc etc all going back through the years. But apparently (and i was organising something elsewhere at the time typically!) the best reception was for Krzystof Cegielski who was present. A standing ovation that went on and on. He was in the grandstand when i was leaving 20-30 mins after the last race and people were still going up and talking to him. Great to see - in a way glad I missed his reception or I'd have been grizzling!

Sounds like a typical Peterboroughesque move to me, always scares me that one ................ doesn't work on many tracks though.

Here's a part of an email I had from Nicki's manager tonight: We think it was problems with an ignition box in the first heat. Nicki is very happy with the win...Would explain, genghis, why he was "only" third in that heat.

Jonsson was the individual star of the meeting, prior to the final. He was involved in some terrific racing, whereas Nicki depended entirely on his gating and looked quite ordinary in Heat 4 when he missed the start.

No, he was wasn't leading the race when he began to slow. I never said he was, but problems with the ignition box would have led to a poor start, poor race, and ultimately the failure. And why do more than necessary? If he's winning that's all he needs to do.

But for me, there wasn't a lot between several riders. In fact, in one race, Hans Andersen looked distinctly quicker than Nicki, before Nicki decided Hans should check out the new produce on sale in the Poole track shop on the fourth bend and Hans shut off.

I think that may have been the race where Hans got his own back on the exit of the 2nd bend at least twice. Absolutely brilliant to see if not a little scary.

You know how much I love you, genghis? Think it's fair to say the rivalry between the two Danes is going to be exciting no matter where they are this year. Throw Nicholls into the equation, and even better.

Jonsson was the individual star of the meeting. I'm glad to see you're finally coming round to my way of thinking Genghis. It's been reported on Nicki's web site that the four finalists agreed to share the £60,000 prize prior to the final.......I'm not sure that should be allowed myself........what do others think?

I think it's a grand gesture, and I also think some were more influential than others, and one in particular is more humble and grounded than people would like to believe.

I don't have a problem with it Kev - as it was winner takes all I think it an honourable gesture. The bits of the race itself i saw was great to watch and I think they were all out for a bit of oneupmanship over the others pre-GP. The money isn't relevant really.
