Latest news from Swindon website: POLISH thrill merchant Adam Skornicki has been instated as captain of the Oxford squad that will compete in a four team tournament at Swindon’s Abbey Stadium on Thursday July 30th, 7.30pm.
The confirmation of Skornicki’s inclusion means all four captains for July’s tournament between Swindon, Cradley, Reading and Oxford have been confirmed.
Australian youngster Troy Batchelor will captain the Robins’ squad, Adam Shields fronts Cradley Heath, Phil Morris leads Reading and Adam Skornicki assumes the Oxford captaincy.
The hugely popular Skornicki spent a season with Oxford in 2006 and became a firm fans favourite at the Cheetah’s Cowley base. Indeed, the Polish International didn’t miss a meeting for the club in 2006 and conjured 309 points from a total of forty two elite league and knock out cup fixtures.
Skornicki's trademark flair, attacking riding style and infamous post match celebrations means Oxford fans remember him fondly.
Now riding for Elite league Wolverhampton, the experienced thirty two year old sensationally collected victory in the 2008 Polish National Championship.
Skornicki, a Blunsdon track specialist, has performed extremely well at the Abbey Stadium in the past few seasons and his inclusion as Cheetahs’ captain provides the Oxfordshire side with immediate strength.
Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said:
"We want to try and include riders with a connection to the club for which they will be competing. Adam is a rider who is regarded highly by Oxford supporters and his addition should prove a popular one'
Tickets for the four team tournament will be available to purchase online from www.swindon-speedway.co.uk in the coming days.
An admission ticket which includes coach travel to and from the Abbey Stadium will also be available for travelling supporters from Reading, Oxford and the Black Country.Woo-hoo, can't wait. And so far, we've got Skornicki and the Wacky Racers have got Phil Morris. I'd say we've got the better of that deal.

Hans has retired - he can be team manager instead. I'll settle for Crumpie, the Grin, Leigh and Nicki P (at reserve ) for the other 4 places. ;D Seriously though, it's great that Adam is riding for us. ;D ;D

No doubt Oxford will be operating R/R for Damian. What a coup it would be if Swindon could tempt Colin Horton out of retirement to manage the Leopards that night.

Let's not forget who Hamill and Hancock started their British careers and gave the most service to eh? It's a shame Greg couldn't win the World Title while still riding for Cradley (though technically he was still a Cradley asset I think). Billy managed while riding for Cradley & Stoke, which was nice. I've still not seen team riding like what they did around Monmore (it was an intentional version of the David Howe and Magnus Karlsson inside and outside swapping from the other night) I'm pleased Adam Shields will be captaining us, a rider I have liked for a few years - and even more now ;D

Charlie Cheddar lines up for the Racers - would personally have preferred Swindon or Oxford to have had him in their line up's as he was an ex-rider of both teams too, but hey-ho.

Wacks - I'd have loved Charlie to have lined up for Oxford. I suppose he didn't do quite as well as Reading, but that would have been down to riding for a club with a dodgy track and dodgy management - it's hardly going to get the best out of him, now is it?

Genghis, with Oxford's history of promotions and their track prep it's quite laughable that you still bang on about Reading like you do. Didn't Charlie ride for Waggy at Oxford. If Gary P is looking at other riders who rode/were owned by any of the TV clubs, can we please take Jonas D & Rico, Oxford can have the Branney boys and Swindon can have Trav.

1 down, 1 to go Kev RICO MAKES RACERS RETURNLEE Richardson is the third rider to be named in the Reading team for the Four Team Tournament taking place at Swindon on Thursday July 30 (7.45pm).
Richardson joins Phil Morris and Charlie Gjedde in a Racers side that will compete against the home team, Cradley Heath and Oxford at the Abbey Stadium.
‘Rico’ is a rider who has had a long association with Reading having started his career with the club as a 16-year-old in 1995. After a difficult debut season in the sport he went out on loan to Poole the following year, but his return to Smallmead in 1997 was to be the turning point in his career.
He led the Racers to the 1997 Premier League Championship and assisted by an awesome 9.96 average then helped them lift the KO Cup in 1998.
With his career now heading in the right direction he made the step up to the Elite League with Poole in 1999 and to complete a successful season amongst the world’s top stars he was also crowned World Under-21 Champion.
Now established as one of Britain’s top riders Coventry signed from Reading him on a full-transfer for the 2000 campaign and he went onto enjoy four years with the ambitious Brandon outfit.
He then spent 2004 on loan at Peterborough, but a change of ownership took place again when a club record deal of £32,000 saw him transferred to Swindon in 2005.
The Great Britain international has also had other loan spells with Eastbourne and Lakeside, but Reading is where he cut his cloth as a rider and he still has a great affection for the club.
