BUILDBASE Bees owner Avtar Sandhu has announced he intends to cease his involvement with speedway - as he is disillusioned with recent developments in the Elite League.
Sandhu has emphasised that he is not casting doubt on the future of the sport at Brandon, but that he is now ready to sell the club "to the right person" after discovering that the Bees are likely to have to completely break up their Treble-winning squad.
At a recent meeting of Elite League promoters, Sandhu and Colin Pratt had reached a compromise with other clubs over a 40-point limit for team building should the League run with ten clubs, which would be raised to 42.5 should another club drop to the Premier League.
But an unexpected vote at a meeting last week in which not all of the clubs were represented saw a figure of around 38.5 voted upon - although that would still be subject to final ratification at next week's AGM. It would force the Bees into making multiple changes to a squad which was largely built up of their own assets, many of whom joined the club as youngsters.
Sandhu said: "The decision I've made that I'm not going to run with this 38.5 is because I'm fed up with fighting with the BSPA every year. There's a time that comes when enough is enough, you stand back and let someone else have the headache.
"I'll make sure that the speedway here goes to the right person. I owe this to our loyal supporters who have supported me when we were down and made me feel one of their own, and also they are the best fans in the league. We're on the look out for the right person to take the reins.
"Nobody expected the vote, and when I found out about it I was so angry. We'd only voted the previous week - why do we have to vote every week? Why vote when two of the top guys are not even there? Why the sudden vote?

Quite frankly Schumi there should never have been a bloody vote without all promoters present.I can't see this 38.5 or whatever being ratified if the promoters not present we're as has been stated.Smacks of opportunism imo.Young Stanley if you're looking in i do hope you're not in agreement with this as the team you are trying to build & all your hard work this last year would come to nothing if this does go through.

Been plenty of new rules passed when not all voting members have been present. Remember the golden bollocks rule? Just thank fuck it looks like we're going to be out of the cess pit that is the EL and back into a league where speedway is still speedway.

They need to get a decent food vendor at Brandon as the one they have is crap Well that, I suspect, will still be for Avtar Sandhu to sort out. This is how I always suspected things would end up at Brandon - Sandhu becoming disillusioned with the sport and rather than pulling the rug completely, subletting the speedway to another party.

But it means nothing. The AGM is next week and that's when the final vote takes place. Until then it's just another rumour quite frankly.

He still seems to think you can build for the future, surely he must be used to speedway by now, each year you start with a fresh slate.

The talk is that this meeting went ahead with no representative from Swindon or Coventry, now call me naive but surely no BSPA meeting would go ahead without TR in attendance

Well, as honourary President, or whatever he gets people to call him these days, maybe the Orange One was there, but not representing Swindon. And I seriously doubt this is bluff from Sandhu - it wasn't bluff back in 2005 and it isn't now.

Hopefully this will all blow over next week. I can't see TR or the hairdresser voting in favour of this.

Some on the Bullshit Forum has suggested that Coventry WERE represented - just not by Sandhu. In which case he needs to pick up his fucking toys and stop trying the same old threats to get his own way.

If this is the case, then ALL clubs were represented, and can have no reason to issue these threats in public, when it was obviously the MAJORITY vote

Food for thought...... it's often said that Coventry, Swindon, Peterborough and Poole want a high limit, and that Ipswich, Belle Vue, Wolverhampton and Eastbourne are in favour of a low limit. If that's true, it looks like Young Stanley has the casting vote. Seriously though, I do have some sympathy for Sandhu, as the club have developed a reasonable team following their basement position a couple of years ago - and all with little help from the rules and regulations..................I'm sure common sense will prevail though.
