Here's an interesting quote from young Cookie, taken from BBC Radio Essex's web site, initially refering to AJ:-
"We certainly wouldn't rule him out later on in the year, should we need a bit of help at the top end to strengthen us if we don't go down the road we think we will, in terms of success with the team we're building at present," he said.
With the Elite League points limit dropping to 39.90 and the current economic squeeze taking a hold, many Grand Prix stars are expected to stay away from the British league in 2009.
We could have two or three British riders for sure in our team and if we get the team we're really thinking about we'll certainly have three
Lakeside Hammers co-promoter Jon Cook The club also confirmed they had signed two as-yet unnamed riders for 2009 and hope to announce their full-line within the next few weeks.
"We're probably in a position now where we would know what the majority of the team would be," explained Cook.
"It's just a case of juggling the last few positions with the averages that we have, to make the very best team available to keep ourselves up at the top.
"We could have two or three British riders for sure in our team and if we get the team we're really thinking about we'll certainly have three."

I guess that means Lanham could be back, but there are references to Paul Hurry on the Hammers forum. Although it could refer to doubling up? Hopefully.

Hurry only has to turn on a light switch and his arm is broken

And Tomicek, Bager and Hart all being made available to other clubs. Well, Hart's already signed for a PL team, but I think that's a good move not having those riders at Lakeside in 2009, for different reasons.

Lakeside have said Leigh Lanham won't be in the team next year, and that they will be announcing the whole 1-7 in a live webcast on the 10th December: www.lakesidehammers.com/

I think the web broadcast is a brilliant idea, and certainly beats making announcements over the bar at The New Inn.

From Joonas Kylmakorpi's website:
I am glad to inform all my fans that the shoulder operation has been very successful and it have made the recovery unexpectedly fast. After loads of hard work at the gym with my personal trainer Mikael Zetterberg, I am feeling stronger than ever! The hard training have made it possible to be back on a bike earlier than it was expected, so I spent last weekend on the motocross track. It is the first time in 3 years time that my shoulders are strong enough to do so and I have to say it feels great to be back on a bike!
Secondly I want to face the rumors and stress the fact that up to now I have not signed a contract neither in Poland nor in Sweden. I give myself some time to choose the best offer. I hope that the situation will be clear in the nearest future. Of course I will keep you informed via my website!
First of all, good news that Joonas is recovering well and feeling good, and secondly, he doesn't mention not signing a contract in England. Joonas back with the Hammers next year?

Just in case anyone is interested, here's my thoughts on the class of '09:-
Adam Shields - Assuming he can come back from the awful injuries he sustained last season with the same form he was showing before, he'll be at least equal to the majority of number one's in the EL next year...... an expected and popular choice.
Lee Richardson - Very surprised to see him included after the 'can't guest for you tonight after all' text from 2006. He's a bit of an emigma really, he can be outstanding and outclassed all in the same meeting and has been very prone to illness. If he's got his head right and is committed to the cause, he could be the ace up our sleeve, but if we get the same old, same old he could be a problem......the jury is out on him.
Jonas Davidsson - Pleased to see him return. On his day he can mix it with the very best and he seems happy to be at Lakeside, so I believe he can make a huge breakthrough in the EL in 2009. He's a good team man and his premature return from injury at the end of '08 proves his committment....... an astute choice.
Joonas Kylmakorpi - Worth his inclusion in the team on entertainment value alone. He's had some bad luck with injuries but it's heartening to see him saying he's fitter than ever following surgery and personally I feel he will be the backbone of the team........ welcome back Kylmo.
Kauko Nieminen - One of my favourite riders, so naturally delighted he's now become a Hammers' asset. His displays for us as #8 last year were outstanding and I'm convinced this move will be to the huge benefit of both club, and rider...... brilliant signing.
Stuart Robson - Another surprise, but he's shown his long lay off hasn't dented his appetite and with his experience should certainly hold his own. A joy to watch and will fit in very well for his entertainment value alone....... potentially one of the best reserves in the EL.
Chris Mills - I honestly think Cookie has been on the Christmas Sherry a bit too early. Millsy's form last year for Reading was on a downward spiral and to expect him to be on the pace in the EL is almost certainly asking too much..... bitter disappointment, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Well having seen your line up, I'm sorry it doesn't fill me with any certainty like last years team did. With a couple of those riders, sadly can see your injury hex staying firmly over the M25, but really hope I am wrong. Good luck in 2009
