And that's why he's never been world champion? You should know by now that Nicki can do no wrong and is simply the best. Schumi - while I voted Nicki No. 1 for 2008, I still rate Crump as the better rider overall. There's clear evidence of this - Crump has won 18 GP rounds, which is double Nicki's total (9). I expect Crump to win back his title in 2009. Beyond that, I'm not sure, I feel Crump's motivation may fade after picking up another title, whears Nicki seems to be pumped up for the forseeable future.

I'm sure you know my comments were tongue in cheek, genghis. Just thought it would lighten the mood, but obviously not.

Kev - but, in terms of age, there is only 21 months between Crumpie and Nicki. Crump's record is currently the most successful one - Nicki is playing catch up.

No, GPs won is a better indication than championships won. Simple question - who is the better rider. Mark Loram or Tomasz Gollob? (And if you Loram, you're the one talking bollocks )

(And if you Loram, you're the one talking bollocks ) I'm confused as to why GP wins are being brought into it by you now. Didn't you previously state that the measure you use to judge rider's was total number of World Title's won? No need to change from that here...Jason has 6, Nicki 5 (assuming I am remembering things rightly)...

HenryW - yes, I did say that, although for the current generation of riders it's a bit different under the GP series. These days instead a World Final plus a World Pairs FInal and a World Team Cup Final, there's 11 GPs a year plus a World Cup Final. Using the same logic as before, each GP win counts as a win. Obviously it means you can't compare the new crop of riders with riders who only had the chance to win three World Finals a year (unless they also did Longtrack). In any case, in just about any way you look at it, Crumpie comes out ahead of Nicki.

I have some sympathy with genghis on this one, I have to confess. But, then again, I've been saying for several years now that GP wins is an important factor in determining the merit of a rider. And I'll agree with him that, at the minute, I'd still rank Crump's achievements higher than Nicki P's. Aside from his two world titles, Crump also has quite a few world championship podium places - Crump hasn't finished outside of the top three in the world championship since 2000. But Crump doesn't appear to be anywhere near the level he was a couple of years ago.
Edit:
And you don't know how much trouble the above is going to get the old Mongol into.

Chris Morton has turned it down too, according to Speedway Star. Great Britain would be really up shit creek sans a paddle with Chris Morton in charge - he's an abject team manager.

So Rob Lyon is announced as the new man with the thankless task. Probably the right choice given the alternative. Rico
