So Rob Lyon is announced as the new man with the thankless task. Probably the right choice given the alternative. Rico Indeed, the white smoke has emerged from Rugby, finally: www.british-speedway.co.uk/news.php?extend.2421Poor old Rosco, but best of luck to Lyon, he'll need it.

Oh, just give the job to Rosco. At least he'll be sacked by the time we have a half-decent team again. At the moment, there's nothing to throw away - we're rubbish anyway. More inconsistancy Genghis ?

I'll second that ;D. Good luck to Rob, and with the help of Mark and Chris, hopefully the future will be somewhat more settled.

More inconsistancy Genghis ? Hatcham - I had resigned myself to the fact that the clown Rossiter was going to get the job as our national boss, but I'm relieved he hasn't. It's bad enough that the Russians are probably going to turn us over in the battle for third at Leszno, without Rosco bumbling around like an idiot.

I'm more shocked they actually held interviews for the position. Who on earth would want to take part in a beauty contest to manage the current 'Team GB' mob?

From worldspeedwaytv:
SWINDON manager Alun Rossiter has sent a message of congratulations to new Great Britain boss Rob Lyon. Rossiter was also in the frame for the national job but lost out to King's Lynn manager Lyon, who takes over from Jim Lynch, after the two men were involved in a lengthy interview process. Rossiter, who is currently enjoying a pre-season break in the Dominican Republic, has passed on his best wishes to Lyon. He said: "I'd like to congratulate Rob on his appointment and wish him, the riders and the GB support team all the very best for the future years. "Hopefully the National squad can challenge for honours in the coming seasons." Lyon's first major test in charge of Great Britain will come in the opening round of the World Cup at Peterborough in July, where his side face Poland, Australia and a qualifier.

Not surprising in view of Rob's new set up, but this was in today's EADT:
Louis backing Lyon to roar as manager ELVIN KING
CHRIS Louis will help new Team Great Britain speedway manager Rob Lyon - and has backed him to improve the fortunes of British speedway.
Louis, who is unlikely to ride this season because of a broken upper arm, is the Ipswich Witches rider/manager. He also works weekly for Sky Sports in their TV coverage of the shale sport.
“It is another string to my bow,” said Louis, who is looking forward to working with King's Lynn team manager Lyon after his appointment to succeed Jim Lynch.
“I backed Rob as I think he is the right man for the job,” said Louis. “And I am sure he will prove a success.
“He is looking long term - as he has to - and he has asked me to be of assistance.”
This will be mainly on the technical side.
“I plan to go the World Cup, but will probably be working for TV during the event. So I will not be helping on the day.
“But I will be involved in the preparatory work including the practice session.
“We needed someone strong and Rob will be. He is very professional.”
Louis sees the need to produce more riders of genuine international class, and he added: “Rob will not be working with a full squad this year.
“Unlike the Danes and Swedes, who put a lot of effort into producing their own youngsters, we have some catching up to do.
“Scott Nicholls, Chris Harris and Lee Richardson, who always seems to pull out the stops riding for his country, have proved their worth at the top level.
“But then there is a bit of a gap, and there is a need to bring on the likes of Edward Kennett, Lewis Bridger, Simon Stead and Daniel King.
“Without the right backing they will find it hard to make the strides necessary. With Rob at the helm this backing will hopefully now be there.”
Forty three year-old Lyon has enjoyed five years of success in charge of the Stars, and he will continue to run team operations for promoters Keith and Jonathan Chapman at King's Lynn.
Lyon plans to recruit Stowmarket-based Mark Loram as well as Louis to help with the team's development.
“Chris is going to help me in an advisory role,” said Lyon. “And I am sure Mark will be on hand in certain situations when we need to call on his experience.
“Getting them involved was one of the key issues. This is not a one-man show, it is a team effort, and their experience can be invaluable.”
And reflecting on his appointment, Lyon said: “I was a little disappointed I didn't get the job last year, but maybe they were looking for someone with a little more experience.
“They were obviously more impressed this time around with my views and thoughts. I put together a dossier, a three-to-five-year plan and it seems to have had the desired effect.”
Lyon has been involved at Lynn since the 2005 season, having supported the team since he was 10 years old.
“I saw my first meeting there, I met my wife Debbie at speedway, our two girls love it - it's a proper family sport,” said Lyon, who is a partner in an air-conditioning company based in Spalding, where he lives.
