So is the Weird World of Subedei to be classed as a meta-forum? Its seems to be a product of and commentary on the BSF. Do Sub's Mongol Minions believe that the BSF has had its day and online fans are now fragmenting into splinter groups and renegade contrarian enclaves? (Bearing in mind that I began using the BSF a long time ago and even then it was"going down the pan" acording to the Illuminati.

Personally? I was talking to someone about this the other day. I don't think the BSF has had it's day. It's still possibly the best source of speedway information on the net. But it's a victim of it's own success and has expanded far enough to now be causing problems - two groups of fans in particular, in my mind, are very vocal and seem to have perhaps become slightly defensive. This in turn makes them stick together, so instead of trying to have a constructive discussion with one or two, you're now in a position where you have to take on the whole lot.
I also think that because it's so big some people are put off posting there. I've seen a lot of "I'm new here, go easy on me" posts, which suggests these new posters are aware that discussions can sometimes get heated. Plus it's inevitable there are always going to be one or two happy to stir things to get a reaction.
I think the reason it works here is because everyone respects each other's right to have their say and it's not too big. I don't agree with all the opinions expressed, but that's not to say I'm right in my own opinion either. And if I don't agree I can say without fear of taking on a whole group. Of course, there are small groups of friends here, but I like to think that everyone gets on well and, more to the point, has fun and is able to say what they like.
But I do hope the BSF continues to run, and I don't ever see us becoming a threat to it. We're not the rebel renegades some like to make us out to be!

Oi Swiney, I'm no minion!! BSF has been going downhill for a long time, but the inconsistant moderation and the majorly irritating Poole & Cov fans have just about done my head in. Speedway forums used to be about having a laugh a bit of banter and a sensible(ish) discussion about matters. Now though everyone seems an expert and it all gets a bit too serious and nasty sometimes.

The main failing of the BSF is that with so many armchair promoters and rule makers they could achieve so much by putting all important questions through a significant heuristic mangle and even, by the use of polls etc, which limit votes to one per user, obtain representative polling of what (some) fans want - this may induce many lurkers to register even just to vote. There are some decent minds at work on the BSF, and some excellent stattos. Fans seem to have a better collective memory of the impact of changes to rules and practices and structure - far more convincing than the BSPAs attempts.
Maybe they could achieve definite practical improvements and hand them on a platter to the powers that be. It would be a product of controlled and moderated bickering, with rival approaches assesed etc.

I hope WWoS stays fairly small - because it's much more fun posting on here than BSF. I don' think BSF will collapse. And I think the two forums are very different in content and both have their place. Everyone on here seems to get on pretty well, probably because discussions are allowed to go their full course, without unneccessary moderation. Even DonsKing and myself get on, on here, and we used to hate each other on the BSF!!! ;D ;D P.S. "Illuminati"? Swinetown, you're not David Icke in disguise are you - do you believe the BSF is run by frogs? ;D ;D

Hey wacks - are u Wackie?
If the majority of posters here have arrived in the full fresh fury of a BSF moderator ticking off/warning/deletion/locking or spat with the Coventry Clique or Poole's Pompous Posters, then you may be in trouble.

Icke has a successor - have you heard Shaylers latest ramblings?
I was not saying that this forum would kill the BSF. It won't. But is the idea of a single united english-language speedway forum valuable in its own right and is it on the slide?
Very post-modern, this turn from centralised information adn communication systems to fragmented, localised, self-legislating communities but maybe it is happening.

I'd have said more toad like Genghis I don't think this site is a threat to the BSF, just an outlet where you can have a bloody great stack up and still be friends, where as the BSF you cannot say what you want, what you really really want without fear of retribution and condemnation. I have noticed more that if you do create discussion against the party line, your told in no uncertain terms to clear off over here, probably why you are seeing the numbers grow on the Weird World

Swinetown, I think most of us ended up on here due to hints from Schumi... my was "post on WWoS or I'll snap your ankle" ;D ;D Seriously though, word of mouth has been the main reason for most people coming here, not a ticking off on the BSF. I have a pretty clean record on the BSF, and I make no secret of the fact I get on well with Steve Turner, SB & SCB and the fairies.

Just to say again - I did not mean to imply that TWWOS was a direct threat to the future of the BSF - just that it represents a trend or change of behaviour.

Swinetown, I think it's because here you can have a good mouth off, without worrying who's looking in (especially in this top - members only - section) or retribution. It's a good place to grind your axe. The main reason I post on this forum, though, is because it's fun!

Hey - I'm here - reading and posting - I think maybe that Sub made the mistake that most make with forums - too many boards - compress the boards, one per league and let the posts pick up their own rythm. Empty or derelict parts of the forum get neglected otherwise. Just IMO
