I see this has started a day early this season. I have to say i absolutely detest it, i'm sure a lot of good causes benefit but the sight of patronizing celebrities telling poor people to dig deep while they bask in the glory of giving their time, drives me to distraction.
If the likes of Cowell, Beckham, Rowling, Terry, Barlow, Williams etc put their hands in their pockets, the various causes could receive ten times as much without their bank balances taking any more than a slight blip. And where is the government in all this ? if they stopped wasting all our money on wars with Iraq and pointless conflicts in Afghanistan, maybe they could be doing something more constructive.

Blimey, it's not very that happens is it? Mind you, Lily Allen is now on - she can patronise me as much as she likes. ;D EDIT: But now bloody Mark Owen has gatecrashed her performance - why doesn't he fuck off? And what a smarmy git Gary Barlow is, with that "how wonderful am I" attitude of his. Why doesn't he give a couple of million to Children In Need instead of milking the publicity for all it's worth. Git.

But Macca is now on. Legend. "Back In the USSR" and "Get Back" - two classics from the McCartney songbook. EDIT: But now fucking Take That had gatecrashed "Hey Jude". Bastards.

Oh get over it you 2 grumpies.
What a fantastic concert to be able to go to see. An excellent line up and money raised for a good cause, now I can understand you having a moan about the borefest that will be on tomorrow night, but I for one enjoyed tonight's concert.

Thanks for posting that Badge - my other half thinks I am the only one that finds tomorrow night boring - when he wakes up he will learn that I am not ;D

At least 5 of the 6 names you listed above give more than just their time to charity.

Well John Terry certainly doesn't so i presume he's your odd man out Wacks. Fact is if they put together a list of Britains top 500 celebrity earners they could or at least should, be able to raise measurably more.
Probably best i don't start on about people in poverty stricken countries having too many children.

Kev, it's a very good cause BUT what the fuck do we pay our taxes for? The NHS should be government funded, but instead our MPs spend the money fiddling thier expenses and bailing out the banks so that the fat-cats can get their bonuses.

Badge, but it would have been far better had Take That not kept gatecrashing other peoples songs - Lily Allen & Paul McCartney have more talent in their little toes than fucking Gary "Oh look at me, aren't I wonderful?" Barlow.

Yes, it's absolutely awful and even worse they sneakily extended it to two days so I couldn't arrange to go out to the pub to miss it yesterday. It's annoying for several reasons - firstly it provides cheap content for the television companies, and secondly as you say, it's a bit (cough) rich for already rich people to tell others to hand over their cash. I can only assume people tolerate this sort of stuff because it makes them feel 'something is being done' and it gives them a happy glow inside, but I really wonder how much these things actually raise once all the expenses have been taken into account. The Albert Hall can't come cheap, and I expect not all the celebrities are doing it solely out of the goodness of their heart. As for gatecrashes though, what the hell was Dizzee Rascal supposed to be adding to the legendary 'Diamonds are Forever'?

That said, could Paul McCartney please start playing something other than 'Back in the USSR' and 'Hey Jude' at these things? Give the old chap a break, he is getting on a bit you know. And he performed "Helter Skelter" at Live8, although on that ocassion, he had the impossible task of coming after a rather bloody brilliant Pink Floyd reunion performance. Actually that reminds me. Being an incredibly insular band, it hadn't occured to the members of Pink Floyd that their performance at Live8 would cause sales of their albums to soar. Dave Gilmour was appalled at the fact that he make end up making money from Live8 and so donated his share of any Pink Floyd album royalties to charity. I would if any of last night's perfomers will do the same?

FFS you lot, what a bunch of miserable old gits. It's all for "charity mate", I'm sure the said charities would rather have celebrities backing, taking part in their fund raising events than not just because the said celebrity may benefit too from their involvement. Rob, I know you as a poor down trodden Oxford fan, but also for the charitable work you do for the SRBF. Now I'm not saying that you do that for any personal gain (quite the opposite I know), but in the British Speedway world you could be seen as basking in the glory of giving up your time for the worthwhile cause.
