I've long thought jury trials to be a nonsense. They drag normal people away from their jobs, many jurors are disinterested in being there and/or fail to understand the evidence, are open to 'nobbling', plus the obvious issues with the above. Just have a panel of trained professional judges and be done with it. Totally agree , it is a complete nuisance being called up for this . Happened to me twice , and the expenses you get doesn't come anywhere near compensating you for lost earnings . The first time i sat on a jury , there was a bloke who was self-employed . And he was going nuts wanting us to come to a verdict as quick as possible .

Totally agree , it is a complete nuisance being called up for this. They exist from a (medieval) era when the judiciary could not be relied upon to be impartial, and professional judges didn't exist. Trial by fellow peers was therefore the best method of achieving justice at the time, but times have moved on, and they're a ridiculous waste of time and money now. Maybe they should be retained for alleged crimes against the state, in case judges are nobbled for political ends, but not for common criminality.

I'm still a believer in trial by jury, but the problem is that some of us have reached a level of serenity and consciousness that transcends everything and leaves us without peers.

Must admit I never thought I'd say this, but I miss DC. He's a right royal pain in arse, and I wanted to give him a right slapping on more than one occasion, but he does make me chuckle (occasionally!) and I did like sparring with him. So many people take everything so seriously and personally on there right now, it's hard to not retaliate in kind. At least with DC you knew his tongue was formly wedged in cheek to get a response. There's a few others I'd have got rid of before him certainly. Have to admit he did amuse me, we need someone to take over the mantle from him. Orion used to be on par, but he seems to have gone a bit soft in his old age of late. With no Oxford and Reading about anymore it's never been the same .those clubs had plenty of fish who always were good for a bite . ;D

The nominations are 1) Jason Crump 2) FIM/BSI for not having correct equipment/allowing the Joker rule/rescheduling the final at a godforsaken hour 3) Eastbourne for something, even they are not sure exactly what 4) Dickheads on the Woofy wore an Aussie shirt thread 5) Lewis Bridger for various crimes 6) Edinburgh for upsetting Snyper 7) BSF Mods for actually moderating 8) Judge who presided over the Gerrard trial There is absolutely no way I'd ever choose Jason Crump and I reckon Snyper has upset enough people to offset the Edinburgh nomination . As for the Gerrard judge, he was set up by the idiots who decided the charge was affray and not assault. The Woofy dickheads I dismissed out of hand, I've worn some seriously dodgy fashion in my time so I can't see why they were getting their knickers in a knot cos Woofy wore a green t-shirt with a picture of a roo on . The BSF mods are merely doing what they are there to do, if folk don't like it use a different forum . That leaves our top 3, BSI, Bridger and Eastbourne.... and the result in reverse order is .... Early in the week, BSI/FIM were firm favourites, anyone that can contemplate a joker scenario in a sport that purports to be a serious one has to be a flapperjack , however they were only worthy of 3rd place this week. Which leaves the mess at Belle Vue and it participants. In 2nd place.....Eastbourne for not realising that Bridger has no sense and for believing he was ill/otherwise engaged etc and for depriving the fans at the match of a full team. and the winner is Lewis Bridger....a flapperjack of the highest order. He needs to learn he doesn't have a god given right to an EL (or even PL or NL) place and his fans deserve to be treated with respect. I would like to add a caveat that the BSPA were very close to winning this week for not having the balls to ban Bridger for making monkeys out of everyone, they were saved simply because no one nominated them. British speedway will never come out of the dark ages, whilst we kow tow to the Poles, we need to clamp down hard on riders that take the piss. That's the verdict of the Star Lady Chamber .

Lewis Bridger....a flapperjack of the highest order. A particular worthy choice, if I may say so, although BSI ran them close.

Very good choice Star Lady but I feel people are being a bit harsh on Eastbourne. Last night we were spoken to by both Trevor Geer and Lewis's Grandad. Trevor's version of events are that Lewis rang him to say he had lost his passport, and couldn't get home. At that point Lewis was told not to race in Poland, as the Eagles meeting was the priority, and he was warned that there would be consequences if he did race. Trevor then at very short notice tried to get a proper guest for Lewis, and having tried every elite league rider with no luck, moved onto premier league riders and ended up with Complin. It wasn't until the parade had finished that Trevor heard Lewis had raced in Poland and that we weren't allowed to use complin because of it. Grandad's version was that Lewis didn't know what he was doing by racing , (even though Trevor had told him what to do ). And that he wasn't racing for the money, and felt he had to race as he didn't want to let his Polish team down. (So sod letting Eastbourne down ) His grandad did him no favours, and is just as big a flapperjack as Lewis.

Bridger had to know exactly what he was doing. He shouldn't need to have been told by Geer or anyone else. He just saw an opportunity to impress Czestochowa while their preferred option - Tai Woffinden - was fulfilling his obligations to Wolverhampton. As it turned out, he did nothing much and Woffinden - restored to the Czestochowa line-up for the next fixture - scored very well. Bridger will only be called again when Czestochowa are struggling to field a team. And so desperate is he to be a star in Poland that he'll drop everything again.

(So sod letting Eastbourne down ) Where it's true or not, he's still a flapperjack for leaving his passport somewhere. When your job relies on international travel, you guard it with your life. Secondly, for then not making much of any effort to get back to the UK. I suspect there are likely to be flights in the middle of day from Poland back to the UK that would have got him to the Eastbourne meeting in time. Thirdly, for then riding after being told not to.
