You mean like how man u found millions of fans over night? bunch of glory hunting flapperjacks the lot of them (bar a few) We've always had a fanbase Snyper. It was unfortunate that it grew tenfold during the 90's when we were so successful. My criticism of the Blues fans is they've already turned into arseholes without actually winning anything of note. We had to win 3 League Titles before folk really started hating us. I can't wait for the Surrey branch of the MCFC Supporters Club is formed. ;D

Realistically, the Munich disaster made Manchester United - prior to the tragedy and romance born out of that event United were more or less just another club.

We've always had a fanbase Snyper. Indeed. When I was growing up in the seventies, there were always a substantial number of Man Ure fans outside of Mancland. Of course, many glory hunters latched onto Liverpool then, and there were even a few Aston Vanilla fans as well. However, Chelsea didn't even register on the radar, which shows just how many came out of the woodwork the moment the Ruskie bought a team.

I had a chat yesterday with a mate at work about football, him knowing I know jack about football from 1990 onwards. He asked me who in my opinion are the "top" football clubs. I used the teams who were top of their game from the late 70's - late 90's, so I told him him in no order, Liverpool, Man U, Spurs, Leeds (!), Arsenal, Notts Forest, Ipswich, Everton, and probably Villa. Teams like Chelsea and Newcastle were like West Ham, up and down between the First and Second division.

To be fair to Chelsea(and bearing in mind i despise them) they could never be accused of being a 'yo-yo' club. In 1970 they were a very decent side, they won one of the most exciting and brutal cup finals of all time, the following season beat Real Madrid in the final of the cup-winners-cup and then in 1972 won the league cup(which was taken far more seriously in those days) they did then have a spell in the wilderness. They always have had a massive following but since the spell in the lower division their loyalty has raised huge question marks...it has to be remembered that their catchment area includes some of the wealthiest areas of the country, and wealthy people typically have more options available to them and are notoriously fickle.

The Hungarian referee, Istvan Darago, who ultimately is responsbile for the farcical events of Heat 22. The ref should thoroughly check the programme before the meeting - the buck stops with him.

Rob Lyon for his ridiculous team selection for Team GB throughout our brief flirtation with the World Cup.
