And the reigning champions kick off their season with a comfortable win over the heathen Tigers at Armadale in the prestigious "Spring Trophy":
EDINBURGH "SCOTWASTE" MONARCHS..55
1..Ryan Fisher..1,2',2',3,3 = 11+2 2..Aaron Summers..3,3,3,3 = 12 3..Thomas H Jonasson..0,0,0 = 0 4..Andrew Tully..2,2,2,3 = 9 5..Matthew Wethers..[C]..2,3,1',0,0 = 6+1 6..Michal Rajkowski..3,2',2,3,2' = 12+2 7..Sean Stoddart..2',0,1,2' = 5+2
GLASGOW "A PLANT" TIGERS..39
1..Shane Parker..[C]..2,3,3,4,2 = 14 2..Ross Brady..0,1,2,T = 3 3..Peter Juul Larsen..0,1,1,0 = 2 4..Josh Grajczonek..3,0,0,1 = 4 5..James Grieves..3,1,6,1',1' = 12+2 6..Mitchell Davey..0,0,1,1 = 2 7..Anders Andersen..1,1,0,0,0 = 2
A great start at home for Michal Rajkowski, who was only beaten by the "Messiah", who is an acknowledged expert at the West Lothian "trick track". And Summers is clearly going to be a force to be reckoned with at Armadale. But, a nightmare for Thomas H Jonasson, who might as well have been invisible - apparently unsettled by wet track conditions and bedeviled by engine problems.

The Raj only lost to Parker due to lack of experiance and lack of line knowledge. He out paced him all night long until the 2nd bend of lap 4 where Parker went wide and gain the speed over him. Awesome team riding by the Raj to help Stoddart to two wins. Spud was awesome beating Parker in his first heat and not looking back all night. THJ had engine issues didnt leave the line in one heat. Tully was also marred by engine issues and Stormy looked slow and oof pace. But we did the business Ryan "Flyin" Fisher showing who owns Armadale with a 15m 2 behind spud. Also totally out classing Parker in heat 15. The Fish also held shane and Grieves to 2nd and 3rd while Parker had the TR on. What a night Bring on Sunday.

My first of many planned visits to the waste of space arena in 2009, and my first ever Monarchs, Tigers clash. Good racing, with flashes of brilliance from both sides. Grieves & the Messiah, as expected, the main men for the tigers. Rajowski looked very impressive for the Monarchs, and could be handy on a slightly bigger track. Some of the younger, less experienced members of the Tigers team were maybe slightly unlucky, but will grow with confidence over the season. Young Peter Juul another man that could be handy on a bigger track as he showed at the Bordernapolis last season, but was caught out by the tight corners of the Dale. Was disappointed with THJ, didn't get much of a chance to see him last season as most of his Friday nights were spent in airports but going by what i had heard, mainly by the Monarchs faithful on hear, was expecting him to run rings around Glasgow. All in all a good nights entertainment. Bit overly priced compared to some tracks though, and no student tickets , but that aside it was an entertaining night. Always nice to catch up with Young Paulco and the rest of the Tigers followers who always have a good laugh and a blether

I really wouldnt expect THJ torun rings round anyone but himself at Armadale. He just cant grasp the tight turns. His bike didnt help though. Another night of EFs for him.

A really entertaining meeting last night with plenty of hard riding and fast paced racing (Paulco take note). Josh Auty was very exciting even if he is and I quote King Jamie " a tempestuos wee shite" ;D and he needs to learn (is that the correct word) some humility. The Monarchs never panicked as Sheffield stuck to them like glue and pulled away in the end. As for the referee........sheesh. He may have lost 7 and 1/2 stone in weight but some of his decisions last night suggested most of that weightloss was from his brain He stopped heat 13 when Hall had fallen and dislodged the safety fence. Hall remounted and the race was awarded with Hall being given third place! Ahem he was the cause of the bloody stoppage in the first place. Anyhoo I thoroughly enjoyed the racing and the drama. Well done to both teams.

And the "muck men" are soundly thrashed by the reigning champions at the Scotwaste Arena to continue their miserable start to the season:

You can only race what's on track with you and sadly that was the poorest performance by a Diamonds team that I have ever seen. However the Monarchs showed no mercy and tore in to the Diamonds. Their only shining light was Kenni Larsen who adapted well to the Scotwaste Arena and looks a very tidy rider, fast too and his race with Andrew Tully in heat 14 was really good. Apart from that the rest were disappointments and Derek Sneddon looked nervous at the start of the meeting.
For the Champions, all had their many moments but Ryan Fisher and Aaron Summers were untouchable with the latter riding as fast and as contolled as I have ever seen and he seems to be revelling in the number two slot in the team so far.

And this week's visitors to "sunny Armadale", or the West Lothian "trick track", whichever floats your rubber duck, are the Comets from the mean streets of Barbaria's capital. The presence of the Kevin Doolan (very classy), Andre Compton and Adrian Rymel should, at the very least ensure a more competitive fixture than last week, while Wright Jnr (assuming he's recovered from his knock at Shielfield Park on Saturday courtesy of that infamous "hard man" of the sport Josef Franc), Branney Jnr and Priest should provide a few laughs.

Workington will be missing both Charles Wright and John Branney through injury. R/R will operate for Wright and Craig Cook replaces Branney. Info from the Edinburgh Website.

Workington will be missing...John Branney through injury. I guess that means not many laughs at the Scotwaste Arena this Friday.
