It was mischief making. That poster will now not get any presents in 2009 from Santa

It's getting to the stage where Edinburgh need to get themselves into gear, or whoever else they decide to lose could be stranded without a team place for 2009. Team places are getting snapped up quickly and options for whoever Edinburgh lose are getting limited. Sneddon to Tyneside, perhaps?

The Premier League champions have announced their fifth signing for 2009 and it's the return of Sean Stoddart to the Edinburgh fold: www.edinburghspeedway.com/news/article.asp?id=643I can't say that I see that as an impressive move by the Monarchs - Stoddart's progress just seems to have stalled. The big question remains unanswered: Sneddon or Summers?

The big question remains unanswered: Sneddon or Summers? Or it looked like the question remained unanswered, but now it seems Derek Sneddon has answered it in a post to the Monarchs Chatzone: I was informed on Tuesday 30th that I would no longer be required in the Edinburgh team.
The fact of losing a team place is disappointing, although I have no ill feeling of losing it to any of last years team. My only disappointment is that the situation has taken this long to come around and it's looking very unlikely that it's giving me any time to find another team place. I think everyone knows I'm an Edinburgh man through and through and I would have given everything to be back at the club that I have skippered for the last season and a half. Not only losing a team place, but the captaincy as well is upsetting.
First of all I'd like to thank my sponsors who have provided excellent backing over the last few years and most of all the fantastic fans (even KJ ) for their support. It's very upsetting to know that I won't be lining up in a Monarchs race jacket next season.
Thanks again and all the best in 2009

Whilst we were all aware that we would be losing two of last season's team, it's the bloody lateness of this announcement that has me up in arms as it could effictively rule out Derek now for any team place in 2009 and that to me is bloody shocking treatment of the captain of the finest and most successful ever Monarchs team. Not a happy Monarchs fan

Not a happy Monarchs fan I'm sure the lateness wasn't intentional and that a lot of soul-searching was involved before a decision was made . I would think in amongst the muck at Rough Park would be a likely destination for the desperate one .

Newcastle would appear to be the logical destination, especially if the young fellow is still transportationally challenged. I really can't see Newcastle getting an average reduction for Steve Boxall, but with the BSPA you never can tell. So, with less than seven points to play with, Sneddon would be a good option for the Diamonds. Other than a berth at the stadium formerly known as Brough Park, there doesn't look to be a place for Sneddon in the Premier League.

Aaron Summers now confirmed as signing number six. Not the biggest shock in the world after Derek Sneddon's statement yesterday. And the final place at Edinburgh should be sorted out fairly shortly, since Mike Hunter posted over on the Monarchs Chatzone that there'd be press releases today and tomorrow.

Not a happy Monarchs fan I agree - Sneddon has been treated shabbily. The Monarchs would have done much better to release THJ, retain Sneddon and fit in a better No. 7 than Stoddart. I think THJ's absences during the forthcoming season will hit Edinburgh much harder this time around. The problem is that THJ is a talented lad and too much in demand elsewhere. R/R won't cover nearly as well without Lawson and Sneddon in the side.

Looking at the Edinburgh team that started last season (leaving aside what we know happened - an almost all-conquering season) and the Edinburgh team that'll start this season, I'd say this season's looks better. But I doubt it'll work out that way. Edinburgh's team last season ended up being superior to the sum of its parts - everything just came together for the Monarchs. Other teams had bad luck (Birmingham predominant among them) and while the Monarchs also had bad luck (injuries to Jonasson and Lawson), the team was galvanised and remained strong throughout, with guests who under-performed for their main employers doing very well for the Monarchs. Look at James Brundle in the promotion-relegation play-off for proof of that. Will the same happen this year? Well, there looks like plenty of scope for improvement in the averages of Ryan Fisher and Michal Rajkowski in particluar, although I don't necessarily share the view that Jonasson will hit the heights expected by some Edinburgh folk. Rajkowski could be a masterstroke, especially starting at reserve. It just depends on whether he has got over the disaster that was 2008. He should never have gone Elite League.

I pretty much agree with that Sube.
Based on the points available then Raj is a steal on that average.
So the die has been cast and the team is now complete and although I am unhappy there is no Derek the team for 2009 will have my full support.
So bring it on, starting with those deluded Tiggers ;D

Rajkowski also has, as far as I'm aware, no external commitments; there should be no racing around the continent from one meeting to another. I don't think he'll even be riding in his home country. The British leagues offer him some semblance of security, so he's been prepared to commit totally to the UK. I really hope it works out for him and he gets over the trauma that was 2008.

I have to agree that THJ wasnt in my team but it could of been alot worse. Lets hope that Sean being back home with his friends and family will reflect on his performance on track. Glad we have Spud back i genuinely feel he will be as big a shock from #5 as he was from #7
