I stopped going to Belle Vue in 2005, 26 years after I first went. The 2008 team hardly excites me. The increase in admission, in addition to the further weakness of the product means it's extremely unlikely I'll be going to Belle Vue this year.
Signing Crump was a mistake considering the 38.85 limit. Rajkowski seemed to be at reserve for a fair amount of time which meant his average was a bit flattering. Screen isn't going to improve and needs to lose weight. It'll be interesting to see how many meetings the two poles miss.

In fairness, Michal Rajkowski appeared in the vast majority of meetings for Newport last year. Also, when you consider that Newport is a Sunday track, that's not a bad record!!

Yes, but Rajkowski knew his chances in Poland would be limited, if not non-existent, so he made a conscious decision to base himself in the United Kingdom. And he's doing the same this year - Rajkowski will be basing himself on these shores and not commuting.

Which surely supports my theory that Rajkowski can be relied upon to turn when required for the Aces?

He gets a reduction for it, he can be our second division Holta.

Belle Vue have added a third Polish rider to their squad with the signing of 20-year-old Kamil Zielinski. He joins the Aces' asset base under the working relationship the club have formed with Polish club Unia Tarnow. Zielinski is described as "one for the future" by club chief David Gordon but he is expected to get the chance to ride at the Kirkmanshulme Lane stadium this season. Likewise, recent Aces' signing Steve Boxall has signed a two-year agreement with Tarnow and will ride in open meetings to help the club assess when he will be ready for league racing. www.belle-vue-speedway.co.ukI think I'm going to have to brush up on the rule book. Surely he can't ride for the team unless it's as a replacement, but who can predict who the season will go to say that another rider is expected to be brought in at some point?

I think the term 'squad' wasn't the best. They have simply signed him as an asset IMO.

It wasn't that term, more the fact they say he's expected to get a ride. Perhaps it's just in an individual that I don't know about, or maybe it's just track time, it's just the article is a little ambiguous.

I assume the bit about 'open meetings' for Boxall is also how the Aces will deal with Zielinski. I'd assume this means challenges/individual metings etc. He can't ride in league matches unless he's a direct replacement for one of the other poles!

In that case, wouldn't they have to use their number 8 in Boxall's absence?
Edit: I was assuming Boxall was at reserve, but he's not, so can't be covered for by the number 8. Okay, so, legally, would Zielinski have to be down on paper as a guest?

Sorry Schumi I think I confused you even more! How I read the press release is that Zielinski has been signed as an 'asset' and unless one of the other team members gets hurt or dropped he can't ride for BV in official matches in 2008. You can't use a 'guest' who isn't contracted to ride for a British club in 2008. In which case I think the press release is saying that he might appear at Kirky Lane this season but it will have to be in a challenge match or 'open' meeting not in the league or cups! Is that a better explanation?

I'm more confused by this "asset" thing. Clubs claiming assets when they haven't ridden the required amount of meetings. What's stopping anyone else from using him?

Don't think anything, apart from a gentlemans agreement.Thought there was a thing about signing one rider per year as a protected asset. But i would think that only lasts for a year and if they haven't used him this season or named him in their team next season then he is back on the market. But lets be honest even the Speedway Star is confused on this as i have seen a number of riders named as assets of clubs that obviously were not.Hougaard for one was named as a Peterborough asset when he wasn't.Plus i recall Casper Wortmann named as a Poole asset but is he?
