And so, after last week's decent season-opener down on the south coast, the attention of the Sky cameras moves north to Manchester for an encounter between the Grand Old Lady of speedway and the upstart revolutionaries from the side of the lake. The Aces opened their home season with a stonking win against paulco's beloved heathen Tigers, but that doesn't really offer much insight into how they'll get along against Elite League opposition. However, led by ex-Hammer Krzysztof Kasprzak the Aces look a useful team this season. A slight concern could be the form of "double-uper" Steve Boxall, but otherwise they look a steady unit. The Hammers have started the season brightly and stand proudly atop the Elite League, following home and away wins over the stuttering Panthers. They'll be hoping to add another away win to their tally at Kirkmanshulme Lane, but will they? It'll be tough, especially without the free-scoring Joonas Kylmakorpi, who was crocked at the EoES, but they do appear to be capable of it. But I've a feeling the Aces will take the win, but the Lakesiders should do enough to claim a point under the new rules. Let the screaming commence.

At least a fortnight, according to the Lakeside website:
Both the riders involved in the heat 14 incident [Vissing and Kylmakorpi] took trips to the local hospital where it was revealed that Kylmakorpi had sustained a small fracture to his elbow. He is returning to Sweden to consult his doctor and it is likely that he will not be able to ride again for at least a fortnight.

After 2 somewhat heavy away defeats the last team the Aces want to face in their first home EL match of the season is Lakeside. The Hammers always seem to go well at our place (regardless of their 1-7) especially Adam Shields (except when he guests for us and then he's usually shit). We scraped a last heat win against them in the A fixture last season with the Hammers comfortably beating us in the B fixture.
I expect them to run us close but we should prevail with a 46-44 victory...probably courtesy of a last heat 5-1 from Cheddar and Kasprzak. Boxall is a big worry for us at the moment (and Newcastle) as he's looking erratic and off the pace. 1 point from 6 rides over Friday and Saturday isn't good. You can't take anything from our romp against Glasgow as after 3 laps of heat 2 they only had 1 reserve (Mitchell Davey) who was way, way out of his depth on the Kirky Lane track.
I'd expect the Aces to line up as follows:
1. Kasprzak 2. Wright 3. Gjedde 4. Bager 5. Ostergaard 6. Boxall 7. Hougaard
And don't expect the stadium to look as it did when Fifth Gear were there last year. Work is being done to sort out the third and fourth bends (about effing time too) and the centre green is just an atrosity....courtesy of those lovely fellas in their Stock Cars.

And according paulco, if we get any controversy tonight we may well see his great chum The Grand Monarch, who is tonight's referee.

It's the first time I've seen Phil Morris ride. He has a touch of the Balinski about him - I like it.
