Jon Cook doesn't mince his words does he. That's exactly what I was going to say.... !! Bet he feels better for getting all that off his chest ! Had a little dig at Peterborough too, over last Thursdays Vissing/Kylmakorpi incident.....

Chris Morton seems to have forgotten his hissy fit at the 1984 British Final if he thinks it was okay to ride on that. Conditions then were a lot better than this. Wasn't the the British Final where an "England international" threatened, maybe even punched, Kenny Carter for wanting the meeting to carry on?

And gave an interview talking about how it should never have gone ahead in such disgusting conditions. Made me laugh when Chris Louis said Chris Morton would have loved it out there!

Better than that. He said "slimey". But Carter said it was "pissing down" at Oxford - I would if young genghis remembers that meeting? Anyway, even before the rain fell that track was shockingly bad - it's a wonder Sky even go to Belle Vue given that there must be a 99% chance that the track will be awful.

Nice to hear the Suffolk accent, put so eloquently across by Comrade JL Tiger Mr Ipswich Speedway!

The gospel according to David Gordon is in the Manchester Evening News: www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/speedway/s/1107013_boss_blasts_belle_vue_calloffInterestingly, he got the referee wrong. James "Grand Monarch" McGregor was the referee, while Craig Ackroyd seemed to labour under the rather grand-sounding title "Meeting Co-ordinator". What the hell is one of those, you may well ask? It sounds like an equivalent of Ole Olsen in the GPs and is, I assume, an extra SCB body in the pits to liaise between Sky, the riders and promoters. Now, we're forever being told that the final decision regarding abandonments is in the hands of the meeting referee, yet last night it all seemed in the hands of the "Meeting Co-ordinator", without any apparent input from the referee. Ackroyd spoke with the riders and managers, assessed conditions and made the decision. Charlie Gjedde hardly makes himself look very clever with his statements, since I recall him saying the decision was a "fair" one on television.

Well that goes a long way to making me understand why we got all the flack week before last regarding our rain off, if Chris Morton was prepared to let his riders go out on that track , pity his riders didn't seem so keen Seems like the "real" Jon Cook is rearing it's ugly head again, and I felt that Shieldsy wasn't very keen to ride from heat 1 , and actually who can blame him I suppose. At least they live to ride another day, most important thing.

I like Adam Shields - he's a fun guy. And his interview after Ht 5 was priceless. To paraphrase, he was asked about how, as captain, he would lift his team and make them rise above the concerns over track conditions and he replied it would be difficult as he was complaining the most.

Having had to miss last night due to the missus turning 27 I am now glad I did. Not once did either promotion give a stuff about the folks that had paid money to watch that shit.
If SKY weren't in town last night would have been off at around midday. Fair play for trying to get a meeting on but it wasn't a speedway meeting it was a gating contest. Track was crap, everything about it was crap. The decision to call if off was the right one, no arguing about it, because Morton would have been the first one to complain had an Aces rider come off and been injured.
Jon Cook was right in what he was saying about the rain etc etc but then let himself down very badly with his comments about the Aces promotion. It's quite frankly none of his business how they run their business. The crap has to stop now and the best way for Belle Vue to answer Jon Cook would be to trounce the Hammers in the re-arranged fixture....but on this seasons showings, so far, that is never going to happen.....and FFS put Gjedde at 5 and Ostergaard at 3. Ulrich is on a hiding to nothing riding at 5.

Better than that. He said "slimey". But Carter said it was "pissing down" at Oxford - I would if young genghis remembers that meeting? The 1984 British Semi-Final at Oxford? Yes, I certainly remember that one. We'd had good crowds since the start of 1984 (somewhere in the region of 3000-3500), but was the first of the mega-sized crowds at Oxford - the place was absolutely heaving. It was pissing down for the latter half of the meeting. Kenny Carter had to be lifted on-and-off his bike, but otherwise didn't seem to be in a lot of pain. He even fell off in one race and was fine to carry on in the meeting. Simon Wigg was in more agony with a freshly broken collarbone. He needed to win Heat 20, got out in front, but the pain combined with the heavy rain, was too much to bear and he finished third, while Carter came through to win the race and ensure his qualifcation to the next round. Wigg only qualified as reserve, but ended up getting a reprieve due to Simmons pulling out, sparking the Sunday People scandal. The evening ended with Neil Evitts and Andy Grahame out in heavy rain in the run-off for first place. Grahame fell and Evitts won the meeting.
