Ryan Sullivan wins the Alfred Smoczyk memorial, Hampel second, Balinski third: live.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel1.htmAdams and Sajfutdinov didn't do so well, however. In fact, the Genius beat the current Czech GP champion in their heat.

Zielona Gora, in spite of a good start to the season, aren't satisfied, particularly with the performance of their foreign riders. So, the club are looking to bring in new riders and had talks with Billy Forsberg, but the cost was prohibitive, so the search goes on: www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2009/05/16/piotr-zyto-rozmawialismy-z-billym-forsbergiem/Piotr Zyto, the Falubaz coach, is - it seems - confused by the excellent performances of Fredrik Lindgren in the British Elite League compared with his supine showings for the Green Mountain club. But Niels-Kristian Iversen seems to be the rider whose team place is under greatest threat.

And after Unia Leszno's weak start to the season, the club's Sporting Director Slawomir Kryjom and coach Czeslaw Czernicki put themselves "at the disposal of the executive board". But the board decided to retain their services, preferring to lay the blame squarely at the door of under-performing riders. Should performances not improve, consequences will follow: www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2009/05/18/czernicki-i-kryjom-dalej-w-lesznie/

Myself and HenryW heard about this a couple of weeks back in Leszno. The club have taken away the priviledges afforded to the head of the Net Fans, but he managed to get the same priviledges from the main league sponsor. I believe the main issue is the suggestion that Zenon Plech has "looked drunk" at post match press conferences, which the club have refuted and claim it is down to some medication he has been taking. Other issues raised by the fans included slick track, no team spirit. The gripes wouldn't sound out of place in the EL would they. Rico

Rico And the legendary Zenon Plech is prepared to see this resolved by the courts: www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2009/05/23/plech-pojdzie-na-wojne-z-kibicami/He wants an apology and lawyers he has consulted suggest that an easy court victory is likely.

No Ekstraliga action this weekend, but the Polish Junior Final is on Saturday 8th at Leszno, and the Edward Jancarz memorial is on Sunday 9th at Gorzow - always a good line-up.
Nicki Pedersen is in for the injured Wieslaw Jagus in the 12th annual event on Sunday, although this year I think it's a pairs competition rather than an individual.

Rune Holta got the better of Grand Prix rival Nicki Pedersen to celebrate victory in the Edward Jancarz Memorial meeting at Gorzow.
The meeting, in memory of the Polish rider stabbed to death by his second wife in 1992, Holta and Gorzow youngster Thomas H.Jonasson took the top honours in a Pairs meeting on 23 points. Holta scored 15 and Jonasson eight.
Pedersen, representing Czestochowa, scored 15 and Gorzow junior Pawel Zmarzlik weighed in with six as the runners-up finished on 21.
Leszno were third on 20 - Jarek Hampel scoring 16 - while GP rider Andreas Jonsson returned after a short injury lay-off to score 14 points, the Bydgoszcz rider's pairing with Torun's Matej Kus finishing with 19 in total.
Greg Hancock scored 10 and Tai Woffinden eight as the Czestochowa duo totalled 18, and Wroclaw also finished on 18, though World Championship leader Jason Crump (10) failed to win a race in six starts.
Crump is a three-times winner of the Edward Jancarz Memorial trophy - when it was held as an individual event.

Unsurprisingly, Torun have extended Darcy Ward's contract for another three years.
And in other news, Leszno will be making changes to their team for next year, after a disappointing loss in their play-off meeting yesterday.

Wonder if Adams will quit his illustrious polish career after Leszno sack him? Maybe he'll only ride at Swindon in 2010.

Tai Woffinden has pledged the next two years to Czestochowa. The Lions' starlet has also said he'd like to be the British wildcard for the GPs in 2009.
