In case anyone is wondering, in a moment of gross stupidity worthy of Harriet Harman I managed to delete the thread regarding Ekstraliga team building, so here seems as good a place as any to post new stuff that comes along. And it looks as if a row is brewing between Stal Gorzow and sportowefakty.pl after this article by Bartlomiej Czekanski was posted on the site: www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2009/03/10/bartlomiej-czekanski-bez-hamulcow-znaczy-kapitan/In the article Czekanski seemed to argue along the lines that Gollob's agreement to drop his wages was egotistical. Gollob, he seemed to argue, was already well enough off to take the hit without it affecting him too much and as such Gollob wouldn't be affected while other riders might be. Was Tomasz Gollob still fit to be the captain of the Polish national side, Czekanski wondered? Naturally enough, Stal Gorzow didn't think much of this and they've issued a statement saying how offended the club is: www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2009/03/13/oswiadczenie-rzecznika-prasowego-stali-gorzow/

Can I put this here? Not a league meeting, but still one worthy of comment. The annual Alfred Smoczyk memorial meeting will be held in Leszno on March 28th in memory of Poland's superstar rider who died tragically in an accident at the age of 22. The Leszno stadium is named after him.
And it's a pretty mouthwatering line-up:
1..Damian Balinski 2..Krzysztof Kasprzak 3..Rafal Dobrucki 4..Adrian Miedzinski 5..Jaroslaw Hampel 6..Ryan Sullivan 7..Nicki Pedersen 8..Tomasz Gapinski 9..Jason Crump 10..Jurica Pavlic 11..Karol Zabik 12..Hans Andersen 13..Sebastian Ulamek 14..Leigh Adams 15..Scott Nicholls 16..Troy Batchelor

From the line up it's got all the makings of a cracking meeting.

As if Przemyslaw Pawlicki's injuries last year weren't enough, the youngster sustained a broken collarbone during practise at Leszno. He'll be out for the next three weeks.

There's a bit of a mis-match going on between Stal Gorzow and Czestochowa at the moment: 25-11 to Gorzow after 7 heats. Saying that though Czestochowa are missing all their big name riders. live.sportowefakty.pl/launch_speedway_1288.html

In case anyone was wondering, the Alfred Smoczyk memorial was rained off and will be restaged on April 26th.

Crump and the global superstar absent as Wroclaw visit the Green Mountain for a training meeting against Falubaz: live.sportowefakty.pl/launch_speedway_1299.htmlSo far not so good for the Elite Leaguers, with Watt's atrocious Polish form continuing from last season and Barker not doing much either. A quite healthy crowd of around 3,000 present. Meanwhile, over in Leszno, last season's Ekstraliga finalists Leszno and Torun are racing against each other in another training meeting: live.sportowefakty.pl/launch_speedway_1300.htmlAnd just to please our beloved First Lady, Damian Balinski's on his arse already.

And wins his next heat. Pure genius. If you put the Comptons together in one person, you'd probably end up with a British equivalent of Damian Balinski.
