I hope I'm not going to be hung drawn and quartered for name dropping here !!! You raise an interesting point Badge, why was it that someone could be 'hung drawn and quartered' when it involved being hanged. Why was it not hanged drawn and quartered ? Perhaps they weren't hanged at all, but hung up whilst they were drawn and quartered, I wouldn't expect anyone to survive that

IPSWICH Witches Manager Peter Simmons has moved quickly to secure the services of 21-year-old Dane Morten Risager to cover for injured skipper Leigh Lanham.
Lanham is expected to be out for a further 3 – 4 weeks recovering from his hand operation following his crash in the Foxhall opener against the Lakeside Hammers.
Morten joins the Witches on a month’s loan from the Swindon Robins with an Elite League average of 4.42. Commenting on his surprise call up for the Witches Morten said “I am just looking forward to racing, being left out of the Elite League this year has just made me more determined to show the British public what I can do.” “I will be aiming to perform well enough to secure a team place for the rest of the season in the Elite League.”
Witches Manager Peter Simmons expressed his pleasure at going in to April with a full team saying “ With Morten on board for the next month it takes the pressure off both the reserves and Tobi who would have taken the rider replacement rides, It also gives our skipper Leigh Lanham time to fully recover and become race fit again before returning to the team”
“I’m delighted to be going into a busy April schedule with a seven man team once again as with the three matches in two days over the Easter period, riding with R/R for Leigh would have been really hard work for everyone.”

Schrammy's thoughts, taken from the Evening Star:
Schramm a victim of his own success ELVIN KING
Last updated: 03/04/2009 08:00:00
FORMER Ipswich Witches speedway rider Chris Schramm feels he has been penalised for trying to further his career.
The 24-year-old became a big favourite with Witches fans while riding at reserve in the Elite League in 2008.
But his average was too high for him to keep his place in the top league this term, and the Essex-based rider has moved back to the Premier League with King's Lynn.
He feels his ambitions to become one of England's top riders has been knocked back by the system.
“It seems to me as a British rider I have been penalised for saying I'll take the step up and have a crack at trying to improve myself as a rider,” said Schramm.
“I wanted to stay in the Elite League and hoped I could maybe double up. But they said my Elite average was too high to allow that.
“It's a great shame, but I'm still up for riding in the top league in the future.
“It definitely helped me as a rider competing against the best week-in and week-out.”
Ipswich have said they would have had Schramm back this year, but his average last season proved too high for him to fit into the Foxhall Stadium-based club.
Schramm opened his Lynn account with a faultless 15 point paid maximum against Edinburgh Monarchs.
He feels it has set him up for a good year at Saddlebow Road and he added: “It was a good first meeting for me.
“I was trying to make an impression and feel I certainly did that. I've had a few guest meetings down the years but it's not a track I've ridden too often so I think that is a good sign.
“I'd had a few practice meetings and tested a few things and it seemed to work as I got a nice set-up going. I wanted to try and get in at King's Lynn because it's a lot more local than having to drive to Wales when I was at Newport or even Berwick in the past.”

But he's (Tobi) been named to ride in an open meeting at Olching on Thursday (11th) with, amongst others, Edward Kennett, Martin Smolinski, Matej Kus and Armando Castagna.

Witches were after Risager

Witches were
after Risager
Speedway: Ipswich Witches team manager Pete Simmons has confirmed that the club would have re-signed Morten Risager this week if he had become available.
The Dane has moved to his parent club Swindon and will face the Witches in an Elite League fixture at Foxhall Stadium on Thursday.
Discarded by Belle Vue, having starred when the Aces lost at Ipswich last Thursday, after they signed Jason Crump, Risager covered for an injured Leigh Lanham at Foxhall earlier in the season.
Simmons confirmed: “Swindon had first refusal on Morten and they have taken up the option.
“If he had become available we would have spoken to him about fitting him into our side in place of the injured Tobi Kroner.”
Kroner looks likely to be out for the season with a broken collar bone and the Witches are in talks with another rider to bring in as a replacement.
“Unless things move quickly and we re-declare it looks as though we will be using the rider replacement facility for Tobi against Swindon, and at Lakeside the following night,” added Simmons.
Simmons will change the Witches riding order with Robert Miskowiak switching from three to five and Troy Batchelor from five to three. From next Tuesday Miskowiak becomes the Witches number one in the averages and takes over from Scott Nicholls in that berth.
Swindon axed Croatian Jurica Pavlic to bring in asset Risager.

Excerpt from an article from speedwaygp.com
Ipswich top gun Scott Nicholls says he has made no decisions on his plans for 2010, despite calls from Witches team manager Pete Simmons for him to stay at Foxhall.
Nicholls lines up in tonight’s FIM Dansk Metal Nordic Grand Prix at Vojens boosted by a procession of double-figure returns in the Elite League.
This has given the 31-year-old’s confidence a huge lift, while Nicholls’ presence in his home town team has reportedly lifted crowd figures at Foxhall Stadium.
Witches are keen to bring the Coventry asset back to East Anglia next season, but Nicholls is keeping his options open for 2010 at this stage.
He said: “I’ll just have to wait and see what happens with the leagues, rules and everything else. Silly season will be starting pretty soon and then you’ll have all the changes they’ll make over the winter.
“I’m certainly enjoying riding for Ipswich at the moment – it has been good for me.
“With regard to next season, I’m not really looking that far ahead at the moment. I’m just taking every meeting as it comes and doing the best I can in every race.”
While Nicholls remains undecided on next year, he is pleased his return to the club has had a positive impact on crowds.
He added: “That’s nice for me – it’s nice to know people are coming back there to watch me and support me.
“If they get more people through the turnstiles, that’s more revenue for them and it’s better for everybody.
“Things have been going well at Ipswich. I’ve been happy with how I’ve been riding and the team has been doing very well.” Are the gates up since his arrival?

Are the gates up since his arrival? The gates have been fairly healthy since he returned, possibly slightly up on earlier in the season. The exception being the other week against Belle Vue which in my opinion was the lowest crowd this season.

Yet again we come close, but not close enough at Belle Vue and its clear for all to see that our crap reserves have cost us many many points this year.
The promotion have bucked the trend this year and actually made changes to the team which was good to see, but rather bizarrely they've left the positions that badly needed surgery and thats the reserves. Bar the odd good meeting here and there, in the main both Wilkinson and Stachyra have been utter crap. To be fair to Wilkinson, he's ridden himself in to the ground with a full premier league programme on top of a near full Witches fixture list that the poor lad thought he was going to share with someone else!!
After Kozza Smith gave up trying to turn out for the Witches after getting injured in his only 2 meetings for us, Wilkinson has had to take the job on single handedly. Why oh why the Ipswich promotion didn't take on another double upper to help the lad god only knows and there's really no excuse for not doing so.
Stachyra should have been replaced a long time ago.
