I just don't understand why the BSPA persist with meetings like this and the ELRC - they've long-since become non-events - they had a raison d'etre in the 1970s and 1980s, but the speedway world has changed a lot since those days. I agree with you regarding the EL Pairs and ELRC now being non-events. From my point of view those changes that have made the meetings an irrelevance are the onset of the GP's, the expanded international calendar and a large number of the more experienced riders operating in three or more countries on a weekly basis. Once their careers are established, riders are so heavily occupied across Europe that these meetings are just events too far. Having said that, I may well attend tomorrows meeting at KL, but only really for the reason that once my four-wheeled motorsport season starts in earnest later this month, I will have scarcely a weekend spare until the end of September and will have to miss several Brandon Fridays when travelling to Scotland, the Channel Islands and Belfast. Also the friend who was at Eastbourne last weekend will be there if Scott rides so catching up again will be very pleasant.

Certainly not a non event for me personally as I only see these riders race at Lynn once a year, in fact it could well be the only time I see them race live this year unless I make the effort to go to Ipswich or Boro.

Just to say if anyone from this forum is coming to this meeting tonight and doesn't read the BSF then the gates are open at 4pm[/b] and NOT 5pm as stated in the SS and some other sources.[/color]

I can think of two pairs that failed to pull up any trees last night.
Having just had a rather fine Singapore Noodles with Char Sui Pork from my local Chinese I am settling down to watch the usual poor diet of Saturday night TV whilst following this meeting on Live Updates.
Fairly pleased I didn't go from the weather reports.
Tomorrow the BBC says there will be snow from the Wirral down to South Oxfordshire. Stone me but I am expected at a venue right in the middle of that, just to the west of Shrewsbury. I doubt I will be going.

What a shame, particularly for those that travelled a long way, in fact I'm sure Booey and sjl went, not sure who else..at least it gives AJ and Scott time to recover...

Hayley and LW went for this - I think you can safely say they are now wishing they hadn't! They are currently in the bar having "a few drinks" according to Hays!

We met up with Sandie and Co first for a meal in the pub down the road. Got to the track about 6ish and boy was it cold, but still bright. Then the rain delayed things getting started and to be honest not sure if I could have stood in those temperatures for another couple of hours. So after the rain-off decision was made we went back to the pub and had our desserts! Very nice, but not somewhere I'd do a 200 mile round trip for again. ;D

Yeah what a bummer , we travelled a total of 120 miles , feel really sorry sfor those fans who travelled from Manchester and the South Coast, Sods law that the final shower that propted the cancellation only last about 10 minutes and it was bone dry 10 miles up the road... Jonathan Chapmans outburst over the PA that the meeting should still have gone ahead was somewhat bizarre! Bloody English weather -- grrrr
