This is where Weird comes into it's own, great for discussion. Maybe just maybe they are putting all their emotion into finding her, in the disbelief that she is dead and they will do something and anything to rid themselves of the guilt for that bloody stupid decision to leave them on their own.. I don't know, but, It's not always as straight forward as it seems as it is in the world according to the press

I still can decide whether I think they were involved or not. It can only be speculation without the facts, although I certainly don't disagree there certainly seems something odd about the whole thing. What I disagree with though, is the trial by mob and 'hang 'em high' mentality on the BSF, without actually knowing any of the actual circumstances. However if you believe The Sun (OK I know gutter press but it's the only one I've read today) Sadly, the tabloid press can and do invent complete fabrications to sensationalise their stories. That's the whole problem - we only really know the story we're fed by the media. I agree with Kevin totally here. We never left our kids alone when they were small ever. Though if anything did happen to them I would not have what it takes to face the media the way they have done either or travel the world I would be a gibbering emotional wreck. Though folks are different and they are medical professionals dealing with life and death and difficult decisions on a daily basis so maybe that experience gives them what appears to be cool and dispassionate attitude. Following all the ins and outs of he case I cannot see anyway that they are involved in their own child's disappearance though, it just does not add up. They made the mistake of leaving the child alone and that is something they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. When my mother left my dad when I was little and he went out drinking or to the dogs, I was left alone a great deal and often waited outside pubs or dog tracks with a drink and a packet of crisps. Though I told the old bugger about it in later years though it did seem quite normal at the time and he felt he had done nothing wrong. It was the times we were living in those days. Thankfully, things have changed from that point of view.

I honestly don't know what to think, initially I did think it was all a bit weird but now the thought that her parents did actually have something to do with her disapearance seems horrific.
I can understand why they have been named as suspects being the last people to see Maddie alive, but there is so much speculation and elaboration of a few official comments it does seem like a public witch hunt has begun.
What really disgusted me and pissed me off was Sky News following the McCanns car from East Midlands airport today filming every turn by helicopter. What was the point of this? Did they expect to seem them throwing evidence out of the windows on the way? No reason and no need for it at all.

It's interesting reading others reactions and opinions regarding the unfolding events of this weekend. Like many others have said this case has been weird, and so often with murders etc., family members have been filmed putting out appeals for help in solving the crime, only to be the actual person to have committed the crime all along. Is this another such case, do you know I haven't a clue, however I'm afraid I have been unable to forgive them right from the start for leaving those young children on their own, and yes they will have to live with that for the rest of their lives I know, but the victim here is Maddie, not them, they made their choice I'm afraid . One assumes they have a nanny here in England, so probably hadn't a clue about looking after children 24/7, and to not use the babysitting service beggars belief. Having seen the media frenzy, somewhat first hand last year when we had the murders here in Ipswich, I'm afraid I now take most of it with a pinch of salt, and will await the outcome of the official line. I just feel for that dear little girl, and her siblings.

A thought only --- when my children were younger I would NEVER leave them under the care of 'uknown' babysittters/minders' so I don't blame anyone if they felt the same. Having said that I do not condone leaving young children alone. It is my personal belief that the parents of Maddy are not involved with her disappearance.

Wasn't she finally acquitted when a tourist fell-off Ayers Rock and bizarrely landed on a missing piece of her child's clothing? What were the odds of that happening?

Let's assume for one moment the parents are innocent.
DNA evidence was found in the back of the car they hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared. This could have been anything - a hair, skin particles - though we're lead to believe it was traces of blood. Now Portugese papers are reporting Maddie's "remains" have been found in the car and that Gerry may not be Maddie's real father. And on top of that they have social services investigating the welfare of their other two children. Now maybe some of that could be considered fair cop if they're guilty, but if they're innocent...well, how upsetting all that must be.

The name escapes me of the family where the mother was accused of 'killing' her 2 baby sons. Having read the book it brings home how the affect of the false accusation can have. She never recovered from it and was unable to live a normal life again. (RIP).

and this morning the Portugese police admit that they didn't find blood in the boot of the hire car . I'm not sure how this originally came out, or was it the press on their witch hunt again.

Wasn't she finally acquitted when a tourist fell-off Ayers Rock and bizarrely landed on a missing piece of her child's clothing? What were the odds of that happening? The baby's jumpsuit was found in an abandoned lair at Uluru, prompting an Inquiry and Lindy's eventual release about 18 months later. She scored a motza in compo from the Gov't, divorced Hubby and as she couldn't live in Oz any more being such a polarising person she shot through to the States where she remarried and lives happily ever after. The Dog that did the deed was a DingoX that was being looked after by a local but the Cops covered that up. The immediate Knee-jerk reaction at the time was the wholesale Slaughter of the Dingo Population at Uluru, over 300 innocent critters were butchered. Activists, including myself, managed to remove several Pure-breds that were being hidden by local aboriginal rangers, and spirited them away to Bruce Jacobs' "Dingo Farm" in Victoria. Bruce is dead now sadly but he was a real Fighter for the Dingo's future. I had one of the descendants of the Uluru Dingos (Tara) for a few years along with my own dingo Tiger, a NSW Plains dog who was eventually shot by the Authorities (as Vermin) when I got locked up for several somethings or other!. Dingos are magic Dogs; they're direct descendants of the Lesser Siberian Wolf. You have to get 'em young - as soon as they can eat solid food, about 3-4 weeks - then you can bond with 'em. They're not a pet, but definitely a companion. Tiger travelled with me the length of the East Coast for over 7 years and was a great ambassador for the Animal Kingdom, at Rock Concerts, Bike & Car meetings such as the Bathurst 1000 and Craft Fairs. He only bit people he (or I!!) didn't like!

And on top of that they have social services investigating the welfare of their other two children. . and I would expect nothing less. After all these are parents that think it's OK to leave 3 under 5s alone, something that AFAIK is illegal in the UK. I agree your other points are upsetting, but they will get no sympathy from me over leaving them alone.

Like many others have said this case has been weird, and so often with murders etc., family members have been filmed putting out appeals for help in solving the crime, only to be the actual person to have committed the crime all along. The Jeremy Bamber case springs to mind here, the man was seen blubbing uncontrollably at their funeral only for it to turn out he had brutally murdered his entire adopted family. Frankly I have no idea if the McCann's have murdered the wee girl or not, I seriously hope not. The Portuguese Police now seem to think they have. What I find totally rich here is the British Press and Commentators have lambasted to Portuguese Police investigation claiming they are incompetent and bungling. Frankly most of that is simply journalists printing crap to sell papers, also didn't our own Police shoot an innocent man in the head claiming he was a terrorist?? So who are we to lecture about how to solve crime. Pots and Kettles spring to mind.

I have always felt uneasy about the McCann's without actually knowing why? Even accounting for people dealing with grief in different ways their way to me was bizarre. No breakdowns, no sobbing. But what really got my goat was the fact that they traipsed off to other countires whilst leaving their twins in the care of other family members and friends. If it was my child who had gone missing I know for a bloody fact that I would never want the other children to be out of my sight.
The McCann's imo have been far too clinical in their emotions. They court publicity like I have never seen before by other parents for other children who have gone missing. Other children who were not neccessarily put at risk nor in danger by their parents. Something the McCann's did do let's not forget that.
Something isn't right and to be honest it would not surprise me in the least if they had anything to do with Maddy's disappearance.
