I sort of tried this one once before; it got a few reads and no replies, and I wasn't happy with how I'd worded it, so I deleted it, now I'll try again. Individual world championship events have a poor record on this issue, leagues did as well in 20s and 30s till betting was banned on league matches. How long before the first scandal now thanks to online betting who knows.

How long before the first scandal now thanks to online betting who knows. That's perhaps another issue altogether, and one that I hadn't previously thought about, but it does seem to me that if averages can be engineered and manipulated, and the outcome of individual events can be decided in the pits, all without the paying public noticing (most of the time) then it doesn't take a huge leap of the imagination to conclude that leagues could be something of a foregone conclusion by mutual consent. The one thing that strikes me is, teams rarely retain a league championship; now, that's either because the system is so bloody good that it mitigates against that (in which case it would be the first time speedway has ever got the rules totally right! ) or it's because the BSPA need to keep that bucket of cash sloshing around in the right order, so the idea that teams can yo-yo up and down the league is a good thing because it helps the balance while the wealth is being redistributed. Can you follow my train of thought?

Most sports leagues now have wage limits which work in same way as the points limit, NFL hasnt seen many repeat winners for last 10 years as the owners realise the greater good is more profitable than stiching each other up.

That's exactly how all professional sports should aim to run. It's just the mechanism by which you arrange this that's the issue.

Yes indeed Mr Muis, perhaps I'm just the only one that wants to actually admit that the current method is so transparent as to actually spoil my enjoyment of the sport? Incidentally, if I, your good self, Andy M and TonyM keep hooking up, should we name ourselves the three Muiskateers? (with me taking the role of D'artagn Ian of course)
