I spose what I'm saying is, is there a point in the season where a 'quiet word' is used to determine the overall outcome of a match, where it doesn't matter to one team, but makes all the difference to the other?
It's no different to F1 really, insofar as teams reach a point where they make a concious effort to put all their all behind the driver that will give them the best result come the end of the season.
The more I've thought about this, the more I've realised it comes down to whether or not I've spent my 15 quid or so watching two teams race hell for leather against each other, or watched a match that would only ever have one outcome.

I must admit I do consider whether fixing takes place pretty often but try to put it to the back of my mind and just enjoy. It crossed my mind after Cardiff but there ya go ................

I must say the only time it crosses my mind that it might be fixed is every time my beloved Tigers make the short journey along the M8 to the " Stad de Midden " . There we all are stood shivering on the first bend with 6 layers of clothes on , anti-frostbite cream so you can mark your programme and a miners helmet so you can see to fill in the afore mentioned programme . When all of a sudden a fat referee complete with Monarchs anorak and blue and gold bobble hat climbs into the referee's box . And so we begin - the four brave riders fly from the tapes on the West Lothian trick track and Desperate Deek wipes them out on the first bend . All four back calls the referee . The rerun commences and Desperate Deek slides off at the back with nobody near him - the red lights go on . The crowd wait with frozen baited breath . Meanwhile the referee is on the phone to the pits - " JDC this is big Jim " says Mr McGregor . " Yes Grand Monarch " replies the exhalted cyclops of Armadale . " A very serious incident there , which Tigers rider would you like me to exclude " and with that the green exclusion light goes on . Speedway fixed - only in certain circumstances .

It's groundhog day at Armadale Jacques ;D.... anyway back to the post....Now I've only been following Speedway since mid 2005 and following the Coventry Bees, so I'm a newbie so to speak and do you know, match fixing has never even entered my mind. Thats not to say that it doesn't happen or has happened ...You certainly get manipulation of rules as has already been mentioned, but fixing? I just can't see it, maybe I'm being naive aswell

I imagine that there is the distinct possiblity that such things can happen....which would make it no different from any other professional team sport. I have personally witnessed the embarassment of watching two, supposedly top flight, football teams play out a large propotion of a match making no effort to score.....A game which, incidentally, saw both teams requiring nothing less than a draw to meet their objectives for the season.....

Speedway fixed - only in certain circumstances . Or alternatively....only when viewed through spectacles that have big, broad, red and white stripes across them

In all seriousness, I saw young Hone make his National League debut for Canterbury at Berwick's old Berrington Lough track. And five months later, I saw him score his first point. ;D

Question was raised when Lynn 'sneaked' into the final at the 4TT yesterday but I'm with most on here and think that whilst there is manipulation of the rules in certain teams favour its unlikely many actual races are 'fixed'

Well if being fixed results in the quality of race that got us into the final yesterday, all I can say if for gods sake fix it some more

Hardly likely seeing as he passed away a few years ago What a stupid and insensitive post to make I'm afraid we don't really care about that sort of thing here Nevs, we allow total freedom of speech (although I'm guessing that a few of us have some idea of taste, decency and downright blatent and unadulterated abuse). This is the place to voice your honest opinion, no matter how much that might offend more sensitive souls; ctylr007 voiced his opinion (cynical though it might be) but only you, a non member, berated him for it. If you fancy joining the forum where freedom of speech is the first priority, then I'm sure we will all welcome you into our world of weirdness, but be aware of one thing; this is not the place for shrinking violets and fence sitters. If you want your voice to be heard, then join us with impunity, but don't expect it to be an easy ride all the time, some of us might call you a flapperjack from time to time, and you will probably deserve it! ;D This is the place where you can call a spade a fucking shovel, come and get it, if you think you're hard enough!
