Interesting debate this. Don’t expect me to have answer though as I am not speedway ‘savvy’ enough on a day to day basis, and I am not sure who the bloke is even. Good arguments also from both points of view.
Though I thought I might make some observations. Obviously, he feels justified in that he has loyalty to his Polish club and their team aspirations. The PLRC is an individual meeting but is it not though as such with team connotations too?
Also, as I believe he is the holder and stands a good chance of winning it once more, and part of the prize is a new bike worth about 3000 quid which makes me wonder if its all just about money unless its really likely his Polish club would be prepared to compensate sufficiently to cover his fine again, and in addition the loss of his potential prize fund from riding the PLRC?
Personally, I always feel that bans (and exclusions too) are always wrong though - on the basis that the (most) fans suffer by a riders absence. Penalty’s yes, in the form of fines (bigger ones if necessary..) hitting the riders in their pocket where it hurts the most and keep them on the track.
As someone who almost never comments on this sort of debate one would think that if all this business of speedway riders riding for up to 3 teams in one season in 3 different countries and hardly of any of it is carefully co-ordinated from whatever league, (and for whatever reason) I would say it would almost be a contradiction in terms to say a rider can have loyalties - other than to himself perhaps.
Ok I’ll get my coat….. ;D
