Panthers are linked with LinusSPEEDWAY: Panthers are remaining tight-lipped over speculation that they have swooped for one of the brightest young talents in world speedway. The city club are said to have landed 20 year-old Swedish starlet Linus Sundstrom for 2011. Sundstrom earned rave reviews for his performance in the Premier League with Rye House this year as he racked up a 9.53 average. He also caught the eye on doubling-up duty for Elite League basement boys Ipswich. But Panthers team manager Trevor Swales said: “There are always rumours and speculation at this time of the year but I’m not going to start commenting on what is basically internet gossip. “We will not be drawn on anything with regard to 2011 until the 2010 season has been put to bed. That doesn’t happen until after our Panthers Party tomorrow night. “No-one can build a team without knowing the points limit and that won’t be set until the BSPA annual meeting later this month. “Of course we have an idea of who we would like to track in 2011, but nothing can be set in stone at this stage.” www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk:80/sport/speedway/panthers_are_linked_with_linus_1_1598239

A sorry day for Peterborough Speedway and British Speedway in general...fingers crossed they'll be back in 2012 !!! It is indeed a very sad day, but as we all keep saying, how long can these club owners just keep throwing money into the seemingly bottomless pit. I feel very sorry for the Frosts. They clearly went in there expecting to be able to turn it around, and I know he has spent an awful lot of money. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Premier League now. Having rejected Plymouth because the League was 'full', surely it should be Plymouth who are offered the vacant slot when KL or whoever it is steps up into the Elite. How can the BSPA justify giving the slot to either Peterborough or Coventry when Plymouth applied first? What a shambles!

They clearly went in there expecting to be able to turn it around, and I know he has spent an awful lot of money. Why did they think it would be any different from any of the other promoters that had been there before them? The bottom line is that top flight speedway has been living beyond its means for too long, and unlike football, just doesn't have the supply of sugar daddies to prop it up indefinitely. In the current climate, such people are even less likely to throw their money into a big pit. All those over on the BSF that complain about 'watering down the product' and the Delete League are just living in cloud cuckoo land. The natural level of speedway in Britain these days is something like the BPL, and fans should simply be thankful if some sort of professional speedway can survive the next 3 or 4 years. As for Peterborough going down the National League route, well it's doesn't seem very likely somehow.

Panthers future hangs in the balance for another month
By Mark Plummer Published on Wed Dec 08 09:39:22 GMT 2010
Peterborough Panthers will have to wait another month to learn whether they can race on next year.
The city club have applied to join the third-tier National League for the 2011 season and were expecting to discover whether they had been successful at the league’s annual meeting this week.
But that has now been put back to the New Year and scheduled for the week commencing January 10. The decision to delay the meeting was actually applauded by Panthers owner Rick Frost.
Frost said: “The National League chairman has made a thoughtful and wise decision as far as I’m concerned. The extra month gives time to see whether certain things currently going on are resolved.
“As we have previously stated, we fully intend to run in the National League next year to ensure that speedway continues in Peterborough.
“Our application will be considered at the meeting when it now takes place in January.”
Panthers and reigning champions Coventry have launched a joint legal action against recent decisions made by the British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA).
Representatives of both clubs are understood to have walked out of the sport’s AGM last month after being left unhappy by proposed rule changes and a reduced team-building limit.
They were then ruled out of a new-look Elite League and Panthers also learned that an application to join the second-tier Prmeier League would not be considered as that league is at full capacity, leaving the National League as their only apparent hope of racing on.
Frost and co-owner Julie Mahoney have remained relatively tightlipped throughout what he calls a ‘sensitive’ issue, but he added: “When we are in a position to give big statements we will do just that, but this is a very sensitive issue and I hope people appreciate that. We have the best interests of Peterborough and the supporters at heart.”
And Frost has revealed he would never consider racing in the top-flight without Danish talent Kenneth Bjerre spearheading his team.
The world number seven had already signed on a contract to represent Panthers again in 2011, but was forced to seek employment elsewhere when Panthers were left out of Elite League plans.
Bjerre has now joined top-flight newcomers King’s Lynn for next season along with fellow Panthers asset Niels Kristian Iversen.
Frost added: “I would never contemplate racing at the top level without Kenneth being here where he belongs as my number one. Not only is he a terrific rider, he is also a good friend.”

PETERBOROUGH SPEEDWAY OFFICIAL STATEMENT We had hoped to bring news to Bees & Panther fans on the current situation regarding the respective clubs dispute with the BSPA, however we have encountered delays. We have engaged a specialist competition law barrister to represent us as, in our view, we have been given no option by the BSPA but to do so. Efforts to seek resolution remain ongoing and mediation has been offered to the BSPA to which we await a response from the BSPA legal team. If we are unable to achieve resolution by way of mediation, we assure our fans that we shall do all that is possible to seek legal redress as advised by our legal team and specialist counsel. As we move forwards with this challenge we will seek permission from our legal team from time to time to authorise us to release the grounds and basis underpinning the legal dispute put forward on behalf of the Bees and the Panthers. It is our desire to take this approach to allow for transparency of this dispute in the interest of all speedway fans. We of course, in fairness to the BSPA, will set out their case if they deny our claims as we have no intention to misrepresent their stance in this dispute. As with all legal issues and disputes, we must follow legal advice which may mean we cannot reveal significant details of the dispute. Please be assured, we shall seek to keep all of our fans informed as often as we are legally permitted to do so. We understand that this is a difficult time for speedway in this country, however both clubs are committed to reach a point where speedway becomes more transparent, run in an impartial way, and members concerns can be raised in a productive forum. Thank you to all our fans for your ongoing support. Thing is Zonkey.. Don't detract from the fact that we have let PUK and Bjerre sign for Kings Lynn?
