NICKI RIDES IN BOB KILBY MEMORIAL! Thursday 21 January 2010 TRIPLE World Champion Nicki Pedersen is a confirmed starter for the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting which opens the 2010 speedway season at Blunsdon on Thursday March 18th.
The Danish star will line up against Robins' skipper Leigh Adams in a sixteen rider field which will compete over a Grand Prix style format.
With Pedersen not competing in the 2010 Elite league and Adams not part of the Grand Prix series, The Bob Kilby Memorial meeting will provide British speedway supporters a rare opportunity to see Pedersen and Adams race against one another.
The 2009 event attracted a large crowd to Blunsdon, and those in attendance saw Leigh Adams register a hugely popular victory.
Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said:
"It's exciting news that Nicki Pedersen has agreed to ride at the Bob Kilby Meeting and alongside Leigh there will also be a number of Swindon riders competing.
More names will be announced in coming days as the meeting is now under eight weeks away"

HANS ANDERSEN and Steve Johnston will compete in the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting which takes place on Thursday 18 March and raises the curtain on the 2009 speedway season at Blunsdon.
Andersen and Johnston join three times World Champion Nicki Pedersen and Robins’ skipper Leigh Adams as confirmed starters for the meeting which will be contested over a 23 heat Grand Prix style format.
Danish international and Grand Prix regular Hans Andersen is well known to Robins' supporters. The twenty nine year old, who has signed to ride for Belle Vue in 2010, possesses vast Blunsdon track knowledge and is a proven performer around the Abbey Stadium circuit.
Meanwhile, Steve Johnston’s inclusion is sure to be well received. The experienced Aussie, who resides in Swindon during the European speedway season, is a popular figure at Blunsdon having spent the 2004 campaign in Robins’ colours.
After a long stint in the sport’s top tier, Johnston is now a heavy hitter in the Premier league and is fronting Birmingham's charge in 2010.
Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said:
“We’re pleased to have Hans and Steve confirmed for the meeting, both ride Blunsdon well and will provide good entertainment.
Bob Kilby and Steve Johnston were good friends and they shared a great relationship. With that in mind, I know that Bob’s family are absolutely delighted that Steve will be competing on the night”www.swindon-speedway.co.uk

LEE RICHARDSON and Freddie Lindgren have been instated as confirmed starters for The Bob Kilby Memorial meeting which takes place at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday 18 March
The Grand Prix style twenty-three heat meeting opens the 2010 speedway campaign at Blunsdon and is expected to attract a bumper crowd.
Richardson and Lindgren join Leigh Adams, Nicki Pedersen, Hans Andersen, Steve Johnston, Simon Stead and Seb Ulamek in the starting line up, with more names for the event being released shortly.
Of course, Swindon asset Lee Richardson is well know to Robins’ supporters having spent three campaigns at Blunsdon between 2005-07. In more recent times the Hastings born racer had a successful term on loan with Lakeside in 2009.
Meanwhile, Freddie Lindgren is a proven Blunsdon performer and his recent record at Swindon has been excellent.
The Swedish youngster, a permanent Grand Prix rider, is widely tipped for World Championship success in the future and his inclusion in March’s meeting is sure to excite.
Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said:
"Both Lee and Freddie ride Blunsdon very well indeed and are therefore good additions to what is already a strong looking line-up for The Bob Kilby Memorial meeting.
With the event now just over five weeks away we’ll be announcing more names in the near future” www.swindon-speedway.co.uk

Look out Swindon - Emil's in town (no doubt subject to visa issues.) RUSSIAN sensation Emil Sayfutdinov will ride in The Bob Kilby Memorial meeting which takes place at Blunsdon on Thursday 18 March.
The Grand Prix rider joins an exciting looking sixteen man field which includes current World Champion Jason Crump, Danish star Nicki Pedersen, Robins’ captain Leigh Adams, British international Lee Richardson and Swedish hot-shot Freddie Lindgren.
Two-times World U21 Champion Sayfutdinov is one of speedway’s hottest talents. The Russian youngster excelled in his inaugural Grand Prix campaign in 2009 and concluded the season in third spot.
Thus far, his British appearances have been limited, so the inclusion of Sayfutdinov in The Bob Kilby memorial meeting is sure to excite Robins’ supporters.
Elsewhere, in a change to the previously announced line-up, Chris Harris and Greg Walasek will ride in the meeting. Harris and Walasek, both internationally experienced riders, replace Davey Watt and Ben Barker.
Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said:
“Naturally we’re excited about Emil’s confirmation in The Bob Kilby Memorial and I’m sure Swindon fans will be delighted to hear news of his involvement.
The complete line-up for the event is very impressive and the meeting will be a fantastic way to launch the 2010 campaign at Blunsdon”
The meeting will be contested over a 23 heat format and the full sixteen rider field is as follows:
Emil Sayfutdinov, Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Nicki Pedersen, Lee Richardson, Freddie Lindgren, Simon Stead, Seb Ulamek, Hans Andersen, Steve Johnston, Mads Korneliussen, Morten Risager, Thomas Jonasson, Grzegorz Zengota, Chris Harris, Greg Walasek. From www.swindon-speedway.co.uk

This meeting was postponed due to the weather and is scheduled to be restaged on Sunday 21st March. I wonder if that will affect the line-up?

There are only 3 changes to the original line up:
Friday 19 March 2010 THE Bob Kilby Memorial, which now takes place on Sunday 21 March at 6pm, will have just three changes to the original meeting line-up.
Greg Walasek's position in the sixteen rider field is now taken by his compatriot, Krzysztof Kasprzak.
Meanwhile, Grzegorz Zengota is unavailable for Sunday's re-staging due to a prior commitment in his homeland. His place in the sixteen man field is assumed by Grand Prix rider Tai Woffinden.
Finally, Lee Richardson's berth will be filled by Danish International Bjarne Pedersen.
Full line-up, Sunday 21 March, 6pm
Emil Sayfutdinov, Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Nicki Pedersen,Freddie Lindgren, Simon Stead, Seb Ulamek, Hans Andersen, Steve Johnston, Mads Korneliussen, Morten Risager, Thomas Jonasson, Chris Harris, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Tai Woffinden, Bjarne Pedersen
Hopefully the weather will allow the meeting to take place this time!

Nicki seems unbeatable judging from the commentary. He's certainly on fire so far this season. And I see the mad Russian has picked out Bjarne Pedersen as his latest victim.

Nicki seems unbeatable judging from the commentary. He's certainly on fire so far this season. And I see the mad Russian has picked out Bjarne Pedersen as his latest victim. So what did we learn today ?...........Well....... 1. Celebrating the memory of previous greats, is a winning idea 2. Speedway needs more 'open meetings' and less of the boring, tiresome team crap. 3. 7/2 on Nicki P for the World Championship looks an outstanding bet. 4. 7/2 on Emil S, doesn't look quite so good. 5. 11/4 on Jason C, looks a shocker 6. Swindon will really struggle this season. 7. Harris may look a World Beater in Wiltshire, when he only has Adams to beat, but when the 'big boys' turn up, it's sadly business as usual. 8. Woffinden is the most over-rated rider in the history of speedway. 9. The modern way of semi finals and final, is unfair and produces false results. Kasprzak was clearly the afternoon/evenings 2nd best rider, and his non-appearance on the rostrum, makes a mockery of the event. Speedway really needs to ditch this worthless trend and revert to the previous, well tried, tested and popular format. Thank you..........................

Tiresome team crap every time for me and asking for a return to a winner at the end of 5 races system is like calling for the football play-offs to be scrapped, it ain't going to happen. In these type of meetings (not GPs) who's to say that riders don't pace themselves anyway knowing that nothing (apart from gate position perhaps) is won over 5 races?

Like everyone on here Riggers, you're entitled to your opinion, however we do have to factor into the equasion, the fact that you choose(and pay) to watch Peterborough United Football team...

I was going to point out Nicki won his races then the final and ask what you meant, then I realised Crumpy came third to Freddie. It's meetings like this where you see the true champions - those who give 110% all the time rather than just in the GPs when it suits them.
