Here's the link: www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5763782,00.html I would say the drivers not only know what they are talking about, but have got it about right. I think, though, I would have Niki Lauda in either third or fourth - he was a remarkable driver.

Did Senna not die on the track ? Yep. It's why a public vote would not be a good idea - it would get distorted by stuff like that. In fact, you'd probably end up with the public voting Lewis Hamilton as the greatest ever driver, who would be plain loopy. This poll has far more weight simply because it's the drivers who voted.

Be absolutely clear, i do not wish to disrespect someone who died for their sport, and don't wish to sound flippant or uncaring, i also know very little about Senna and his ability, but it is an undisputed fact that sympathy will always cloud judgement, so that has to be factored in.

Of course they're going to say Senna, although I expect around half probably never raced against him - his name may be synonymous with F1, but the greatest? I think he's more respected amongst the drivers than Schumacher, but that's all. Nope, Schumacher was, is and always will be the best.

Hatcham, Senna doesn't need sympathy. He was the greatest. He moved into McLaren team (Prost's team) and blew Prost away. He could win a race in a highly uncompetive car - McLaren got into a pickle in 1993 and were using a hired-in engine on a race-by-race basis and Senna still won 5 races that year. He was unique. The best ever. No doubt. And that's coming from a Nigel Mansell fan.

Nope, Schumacher was, is and always will be the best. But not according to the drivers themselves. I think they know better than us, Schumi.

Well they were never going to vote for someone who can still challenge them (and beat them) to a race, were they? Come on, genghis - pride and respect alone stopped them voting for Schumacher.

Schumi, it's not the current drivers. It's ALL the drivers of different generations.

But Senna was also a superb driver, widely acknowledged as such even before his death.

Anyway, I've already proven Schumacher was the best: subedei.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=f1&action=display&thread=510&page=1Maths and science beat opinion, therefore I win.

Schumi, Schumacher had crap team-mates, no oppostion and the best car. Senna had Prost and Berger as team-mates, drove during F1's zenith and only had the best car in two seasons. I've got a maths degree, and I know whow to make stats lie. Which is what you did in that other thread.
