Thanks for starting this topic schumi ;D Yep,we`ve signed two young riders,Grant has to come in on a 5.00 average, and to be honest,I think he`ll struggle to get anywhere near that. Jonas starts next season at reserve, and all I can see for him is an up and down season where he`ll be in the main team for a month, then back at reserve for the next ;D Hope I`m proved wrong of course, but these two signings don`t do a lot for me......yet

From www.newportwasps.com The Wasps have tonight released the name of their 5th signing for the 2010 season, and its another signing that will please the fans.
And that rider is young Australian star, Todd Kurtz, who will join on a 3.00 average.
Wasps co promoter Nick Mallett said: “We are over the moon to be able to announce Todd as our second reserve for the 2010 season.
He had a string of clubs from all three tiers of British Speedway (Elite, Premier and National League) after his contract, but he chose to come to Newport”.
The 17 year old Aussie will also be lining up for the Hornets in the National League in 2010.
Mallett added: “Not only will Todd be lining up in the Premier League for us, but he will also ride in the National League as a Hornet.
Both of our squads are now shaping up nicely. We have a very young Premier League team falling into place, which is only good for our future.
The Wasps team currently contains four of our own young assets. That is something to be proud of”.
Kurtz made a huge impression during his brief 2009 stint with the Hornets, posting some big scores, including a 16 point haul at Mildenhall.
“Todd is one of his countries finest teenagers coming through the ranks. He has top notch equipment, a pure speedway family and is very close to a Newport legend in Craig Watson” continued Mallett.
He added: “He is a great capture for us as a club. We are over the moon with his signing and we wish him all the best in 2010”.
The signing was Officially announced by Promoter Steve Mallett tonight at the SWARM meeting held at the stadium.

Glad we signed him,he seemed to have a bit of ability whenever I saw him last season, but wether he`ll be the high scoring reserve the Wasps fans think he`ll be is open to question. I`m still doubtful wether he`ll be able to climb out of the reserve berth, but in all fairness, with Tregoning and Andersson in the team,he hasn`t got a lot to beat in that regard ;D I could be wrong of course......

The Newport Wasps are delighted to confirm their 6th signing for the 2010 season.
And that is Canadian star Kyle Legault.
Legault is 3 times Canadian champion, 2009 Argentinian champion and a former Elite League rider.
"We are pleased to confirm that our 6th signing for the 2010 season will be Canadian star Kyle Legault" said co promoter Nick Mallett.
He went on to say: "Obviously the team is nearly complete now and we are one signing short of our full 2010 team.
We are waiting for confirmation of Kyles average, which is expected to be within the next 24 hours.
Kyle is 100% fit and raring to go for the new season and is aiming to end the season as our number one rider.
He is an exciting prospect and we are very pleased to have him on board".
Legault joins Leigh Lanham (7.16), Kim Nilsson (7.00), Grant Tregoning (5.00), Jonas Andersson (3.23) and Todd Kurtz (3.00.
A profile will be available for Kyle within the next few days.

A setback for The Wasps;- NEWPORT Speedway have received the surprising news that 19-year-old Swedish rider Jonas Andersson has decided not to take his place in the Newport Wasps Premier League line-up for season 2010.
Jonas made his breakthrough into the team after an encouraging performance in the Welsh Open Championship in June.
Initially saddled with a seven point assessed average his performances became more consistent once he had gained a more realistic average and was an effective reserve. A role that he would have started the next campaign with in March 2010 but with every prospect of forcing his way back into the Wasps' top five.
Commented club owner Steve Mallett: 'We were disappointed to hear this news from Jonas but look forward to his potential return in 2011. Meanwhile Newport fans can be reassured that we are already on the case to bring in a replacement and one that we are sure supporters will be pleased with.'www.british-speedway.co.uk

It appears the rider in question is Anders Mellgren. He was meant to be coming over to Britain yesterday to have a look around and see the track, but has to decide between riding here or in Poland. He said in nwt.se: In Newport, I am guaranteed rides. There can be up to 40 matches, but I have to have an extra bike there. In Poland, I have my own stuff, but I am never guaranteed matches. So we'll see."

Newport Speedway is happy to announce the signing of Newport asset Kyle Newman for the 2010 season. “I am really pleased to have Kyle on board for the 2010 season, the excitement he brings to the stadium is second to none with his all out style. Obviously when I heard he did not feature in Bournemouth’s plans for 2010 I agreed a deal with Kyle” said co promoter Nick Mallett. Kyle Newman is a back to back National League title winner and finished 3rd in the 2009 Great Britain under 18 championships. Mallett added: “Kyle made so much progress in 2009. In his last outing he scored 5 points for the Wasps and he would have featured in my team building plans for the start of the 2010 season if he had not had that nasty accident at the last meeting, but with him signing for the Hornets I think this will keep all the Wasps reserves on their feet as Kyle will be fighting to regain his team place in the 2010 Wasps team.” Kyle is currently in Australia recovering from a broken femur, but Mallett went on to say: “Kyle will be fully recovered for the season and will be coming to Newport to practice before the season starts. I personally think he will surprise a few as he is a strong character and will bounce back to full fitness. His track record is second to none with two league titles under his belt at 18 and he was a must for the Hornets as he is a rider who is always a pleasure to be in a team with, as I found out myself from riding in the Somerset Giants and travelling with him to Poland in 2008. I just cannot wait to have a full season with Kyle.” With only two team places to go Nick was keen to stress the final 2 spots are still up for grabs: “My final 2 signings could be anyone of any age, but I will be watching the training schools closely to try and find someone, as we are keen to develop young riders but no one has been ruled out of this team for 2010.” Everyone from Newport Speedway wishes Kyle happy birthday for tomorrow and a great season for 2010. www.newportwasps.com

NEWPORT Wasps have signed the former World 80cc Speedway Champion Anders Mellgren from Sweden in readiness for the 2010 Premier League season.
The 18-year-old from Hagfors will also ride for Valsarna in Sweden's equivalent to the British Elite League. Along with Newport's recent signing Kim Nilsson - Anders is regarded among the very best speedway prospects emerging in his native country.
Anders has already visited the South Wales circuit to not only enter negotiations with Newport club owner Steve Mallett but to take the opportunity to practice on the Queensway Meadows circuit. All matters were positive and now the Swedish newcomer looks forward to racing in the New Classic at the track on Sunday January 3rd.
Commented Steve Mallett: 'We are very excited with the acquisition of such a fine young rider. Anders has an outstanding record during his formative years in the sport at both national and international level. He is already an elite rider in his home country and the future looks very bright.'
Anders joins Leigh Lanham, Kyle Legault, Kim Nilsson, Grant Tregoning and Todd Kurtz as confirmed starters for the Wasps in the new season which commences at home on Sunday March 21st 2010. www.british-speedway.co.uk
