Taken from www.newportwasps.comThe Newport Hornets can tonight confirm their 7th signing for the 2010 season.
And that rider is Darryl Ritchings.
The young Englishman rode a stint for the Hornets in 2009, and will be riding in his first full season with them in 2010.
"We are happy Darryl has joined us for 2010 and we cannot wait to see his improvement throughout the season" said co promoter Nick Mallett.
Mallett also requested that it is made clear that the Hornets will be an 8 man squad this season, so there is still one more place yet to fill! Can anyone shed any light on this please as Newport have already announced seven riders for 2010 (Leigh Lanham, Kim Nilsson, Anders Mellgren, Craig Watson, Kyle Legault, Grant Tregoning and Todd Kurtz), but this article is clearly saying that Darryl Ritchings is their seventh signing and there's one more to come!! Who is the odd one out?

Tregoning out,Alex Davies in. I`ll settle for that, didn`t think that Tregoning was ever going to hit anywhere near a 5.00 average.

There are strong rumours that Robin Aspegren will shortly be joining the Wasps and that Newport have confirmed they will complete the 2010 season. Apparently, both rumours are true if what Laurence Rodgers said on the centre green last Sunday is correct. Couldn`t hear everything he said due to the tractor racing ;D

From the BSPA........
With a renewed enthusiasm sweeping through the club , the Newport Wasps and Hornets are about to light up the skies!! After a period of uncertainty it is now all systems go at Queensway Meadows with plans and activities getting off the ground almost daily.
The big news –after that of the club’s survival thanks to the shareholders of the club, in particular dentist Peter Mole – is that work began this week to install floodlights at Queensway Meadows. This will not only mean more potential to use the stadium for other events in the evenings but more importantly that speedway under lights is now going to be possible. This is something the fans have been craving but until now has been put on hold but it is a case of full steam ahead with poles being already erected on the back straight and lighting being fitted in the main stand. Exactly when the work will be complete is as yet unknown but opens up opportunities to the club they have never had before.
There are other plans for the stadium which will be commencing soon which will be of great benefit. Meanwhile there is also a concerted promotion campaign getting under way to attract new fans to the club as well as hopefully enticing old ones back. This will involve promotional visits by the riders and management to schools, shopping areas, local events and the like along with leaflets, posters and promotional tickets to spread the word that Newport Speedway is alive and well!

And confirmation of Robin Aspegren signing........
IN the absence of the injured Anders Mellgren the Newport Wasps management have moved to sign 21-year-old Robin Aspegren who rides for the Swedish Elite team Vetlanda alongside riders such as Multi-World Champion Jason Crump and 2010 World Championship contender Jarek Hampel.
Robin will fly from Copenhagan in Denmark to Edinburgh on Friday July 2nd to join up with his new team-mates in the Wasps away fixture in the Scottish capital before moving onto Berwick for another Premier League match on the Saturday evening before making his home debut at Queensway Meadows on the Sunday afternoon in the return league fixture with the Edinburgh Monarchs. While in this country he will use Anders Mellgren's UK equipment.
Explained club boss Steve Mallett: 'Having a glut of fixtures coming together has worked out well for both parties as it gives Robin a chance to settle quickly and for us to have a good look at him with respect to future team plans. He has worked his way up the leagues in Sweden and comes highly recommended.'

I can confirm that the `Bow did indeed taste as good on a Saturday night as it does on a Sunday afternoon ;D Good meeting to kick off our floodlights, here`s hoping that next season we switch to a regular evening timeslot.

And the season continues with a `Bow and speedway night at Queensway Meadows on October 8th. After a rather comfortable win a injury hit Berwick, the Wasps should go through to the semi-finals of the Young Shield, and I should have some sort of headache Saturday morning ;D
