It looks like Lakeside have pulled off another coup with the news tonight that Thomas H Jonasson will be riding for us next week in the challenge meeting against Rye House.

As a guest, I assume? Have you seen his Swedish league form? He scored well last week, but before that not so good.

Jon Cook said he's riding so we can "have a look at him", and we've also got Paul Hurry back "for one match only". The meeting will be under the 18 Heat format with 8 man teams. Jonasson has been getting good reviews and has qualified for the World Under 21 Final. The Hammers already have two riders in that field, and giving a trial to another is confirmation that Lakeside are looking to the future.

I thought you were going to say he'd tracked down Zagar on behalf of the Reading promotion Kev. ;D

Lakeside do seem to have a thing with finding a good young Swede First Andreas Messing was tried for a bit. Then they were supposedly looking at Robert Pettersson. What happened to the interest in those two? Then Ricky Kling is brought into the side, probably to be dropped in favour of next big thing T.Jonasson .I think he is the best of the youngsters at the moment. But by next season will he be overtaken by Simon Gustafsson? And will he be next on Lakesides shopping list if Jonasson fails to impress?

Kev, And to think you always accused several of us to sucking up to the Oxford promotion?... and yet these days you praise Mr. Douglas's every move!* When are you and Stan getting married ;D ;D All the best Rob *Not that I'm arguing with the fact that Mr. Douglas is a very good promoter.

First Andreas Messing was tried for a bit. Then they were supposedly looking at Robert Pettersson. What happened to the interest in those two? Andreas was signed by Ronnie Russell, and although still one of the clubs' assets he doesn't look to be part of out future (at present). Then Ricky Kling is brought into the side, probably to be dropped in favour of next big thing T.Jonasson . I'm sure Ricky place is safe for the rest of the season, but naturally any progressive club will keep their options open for the future. I think he is the best of the youngsters at the moment. But by next season will he be overtaken by Simon Gustafsson? And will he be next on Lakesides shopping list if Jonasson fails to impress? Who's to say both Robert and Simon won't be in next years team?

Rob, Let me draw three parallels between Stan and Hortonfan's favourite club owner. They both became involved with their respective clubs prior to the season, so a fair comparison I'm sure you'll agree. 1. Both owners installed a co-promoter at their club. Stan installed a guy who knows the sport inside out after running a successful club for over a decade. Hortonfans hero installed a guy whose experience amounted to one failed season the previous year! 2. Both owners had to build a team. Stan went with a team that realistically could finish in the top half of the league. He signed three riders as full assets and offered two year contracts to two of them. Hortonfans hero signed, in the main on loan, a team of riders who were struggling to get in any other EL team. He sacked one of them before a wheel had even turned, and another was gone after only one meeting! 3. Both owners had to build a raport with their new fans. Stan staged a pre-season forum which was free to attend and actually put his hand in his pocket and bought said fans a drink during that forum. Hortonfans hero staged a pre-season forum where the fans had to pay for the priveledge of listening to a representative of the club almost insulting them and basically telling them they were lucky to have a club. So yes, I have prasied Mr Douglas' every move so far, because I believe he's doing an excellent job. I'm not sucking up to him in any way, I'm just telling it as I see it. If he does something I don't agree with I can assure you I'll post my thoughts in the same way! Can you honestly say that "several of you" were really telling it in the same way? We are currently fifth in the EL, still in the KO Cup and have a realistic chance of doing well in the CS. We have signed a top GP rider (who everyone said wasn't available) and are building our asset base for the future. Sadly (and I mean that) Oxford are no longer an EL team........ that more than anything surely proves my point. Regarding the wedding, early days yet, but if the time comes your invite will be in the post. ;D

If you noticed, there were certain things I didn't defend in May, but which time I was very worried what was going on. We should be thankful that, in Stuart Douglas and Allen Trump, both clubs now have the right people to take them forward in the years to come. After Horton, I promised myself not to accept anything on trust again, but having spoken a few times with Allen Trump, I'm convinced he is a man of integrity and a very sound and successful businessman. As Bob C (a Poole fan!) today posted on the BSF, Oxford Speedway is now like one big family, there's a real warmth on the terraces - Speedway is fun again! It's so different from April / May - it's an amazing transformation. All the best Rob

I've no doubts about Allen Trump either - I remember reading the detailed planning application he submitted for Exeter and thinking to myself that he seemed to have covered every detail, in detail!! But Rob........... seriously this has to stop........ we're not doing our reputations any good whatsoever by agreeing on things.
