Of the ones that's there , and i have seen in my lifetime , Peter Collins is the clear winner . That's the one I had voted for too. I remember seeing him ride when I first used to go to speedway as a child in the early 70's. I was lucky enough to see him ride at the old Hyde Road track , awesome it was . I was also present when he broke the Coatbridge track record . I started going to speedway when i was nine , and Peter Collins is easily the best British rider i've seen in the subsequent 40 years .

What a load of bollocks. How can Nicholls be included and Simon Wigg not? And don't start to harp on about British Championships, that means you're better only than your fellow Brits - I'm talking international achievements. Wiggy's international achievements: World No. 2 and twice more within the World's top 6 World Team Cup winner (1989) 5 x World Longtrack Champion Commonwelath Champion (1989) Nicholls: Erm... pass A completely fixed poll. I won't be voting. Genghis, Genghis, Genghis calm down old chap, i have explained twice why Nicholls is there, if you want to nominate/vote for Wigg then fine do so and it will be accepted, it will be interesting to see and hear the reasons for people's selections, it comes as no surprise to see Paulco vote for the rider he considers the best he has seen, and it will come as no surprise to see you vote for an ex Dibley rider. The sun is over the yard arm, go and have yourself a 'large one' Hatcham - actually I might not vote for Wiggy (but rather for Collins or Craven), but he deserves to be in the short list, whereas Nicholls shouldn't be there if there was a shortlist of 30 riders. Did see you see him in Prague last weekend, he's a fucking national embarrassment. EDIT: And where the bloody hell is Gary Havelock - the 1992 World Champion. I may have described Havvy as the worst rider to win the World Championship in the past, but he's a damn sight better than most riders to put a leg over a bike, including Scott "loser" Nicholls. This poll is a farce.

Yes i saw him in Prague, Genghis, and he looked poor(as expected) he scored 4 points, 3 more than Kus the rider selected by the Czech authorities(this is the Czech side who you think would beat Team England at Peterborough) 1 more than Holta, who is regularly selected by the best speedway nation in the world, 2 less than Andersen and 3 less than Gollob. So why was he a 'fucking national embarrassment' ? because even if he was an embarrassment(which i'd question) he was only an embarrassment to himself.

Beacause how low have we sunk when our best rider (and shamefully he is our best rider) is that bloody poor. We need to do everything to develop the current crop of youngsters, but it's pivotal to the success of speedway in this country to have successful British talent. It has a knock-on effect with media coverage, morale, getting Joe Public interested in the sport. And that's why I want the youngsters in the World Cup squad - to give them as much of a leg-up as possible. So, in a few years time, I'm not watching the GPs and cringing at the performance of the British riders. I ask you again: how did you come about with Nicholls in the list and not the likes of Gary Havelock (World No. 1), Simon Wigg, Malcolm Simmons and Dave Jessup (a trio of World No. 2's). EDIT: And Eric Langton? Where's he?

Nicholls aside Genghis, and apart from your thinking that speedway began and ended during your childhood and formative years, what is wrong with the other candidates ? There's nothing at all wrong with the other nine candidates - it's the inclusion of Scott Nicholls that I object to. Is this whole thread a wind up, becuase I can't see anyone with a single brain cell including Nicholls in their list of top ten Brits of all-time. And I've already said that Craven may be my choice so your "speedway began and ended during your childhood and formative years" comment is like the rest of your comments on this thread - utter bollocks.

To your first point i state YET 'A' FUCKING 'GAIN' how is it that HE is the embarrassment, and not the rest of us ? Why no Simmons, Jessup, Wigg, Louis etc simply because as they were never the best in their day, i couldn't see how they could be the best ever, however if you want to vote for one of them or Bill Kitchen, Norman Parker, George Newton etc etc feel free and i'll include them. I suppose i should not have mentioned Newton as you dont like 'competition winners'

Becuase he's the one out in the GP series making me cringe. And yes, there's another three riders who should be in the list above Nicholls. And HOW ON EARTH is Nicholls the best in his day? He's been in something lke 70 GPs and NOT WON ONE OF THEM. How is he the best in his day? And don't spout on about winning the British Final, becuase my mum could win the British Final at the moment. Tell me something Nicholls has won in the international sphere of speedway racing. Go on, name just one.

Its created some interest Genghis, so why is it a waste of time ? as for your suggestion that its a wind up, Ha Ha thats rich coming from you, as much as i love you, you are BY FAR the most biased, tunnel visioned poster on this forum, and i expect most would agree.

I've voted for not only the best, but the most entertaining rider I've ever seen .....by a long shot ....... Peter Collins. Collins was National news......everyone knew who he was and that was even before he did the television advertisment for Mars Bars and competed in Superstars! By the way Genghis, weren't the majority of Simon Wigg's achievements on the grass/long tracks?.......this is a speedway poll after all. It's also interesting that nobody has mentioned Kelvin Tatum in this context.

Please remind me of the year when Scott Nicholls finished second in the world? Only God (Hans Nielsen) could stop Wiggy being World Champion. It's also interesting that nobody has mentioned Kelvin Tatum in this context. Funny that isn't it?
