Holm will be unable to accompany the rider to every round of the World Championship due to his family commitments. But he believes Pedersen has what it takes to regain his place on top of the speedway world.

He said: “I am absolutely convinced that Nicki has a good chance to fight for the title this year. Had he not had so many accidents in 2009, he would have been involved in the battle for World Cup title with Denmark as well.”

Nicki will have to work hard on Saturday when he will be team captain in a "mini Le Mans" to collect support for African Women and the victims for the earthquake in Haiti

In total, Nicki and his team of three private racers will race for two hours, including various pit stops, on an indoor track in Østerbro in Copenhagen.

Who are joining Nickis team has not been decided yet, because the team is composed of private drivers.

Nicki and his team will compete against four other teams, led respectively by the world champions in swimming and rowing, Lotte Friis and Eskild Ebbesen and dancer Vickie Jo Ringgaard and handball player Lars Krogh Jeppesen

If Nickis team wins they will be joining a big show in Tivolis concert hall, which is also broadcast live on DR TV

Danish star Nicki Pedersen admits he is “still tough, but not controversial anymore” as he bids to land a fourth world title this year.

The Gorzow newcomer has always been regarded as one of the fiercest competitors on the Grand Prix stage and will fancy his chances of snatching the series’ No.1 race jacket back from Jason Crump in October.

Despite ending last season with victory in the Polish SGP at Bydgoszcz, Pedersen finished sixth overall in the standings as injuries and controversial refereeing decisions put pay to his title hopes.

The former Eastbourne man is determined to put his tough 2009 campaign behind him and bounce back. But at 32-years-old, he is ready to rely on his experience rather than his reputation for being a hard rider.

He told the Speedway Star: “I’m glad I’m 32-years-old and not just 22, because then I would have been very frustrated (about last year). But I have the team supporting me and I have the experience, so I don’t see why I can’t win it again.”

Pedersen added: “When I was younger, I was a tough rider. But now I have won the World Championship three times, and I think people can see that you don’t do that if you’re not consistent.

“I am still tough, but not controversial anymore. When you get older, it helps – obviously I am still a racer and I want to win, and I want people to make fair decisions, but being older helps.”

The Lejonen racer will not start the 2010 campaign with a British Elite League club, but his first meeting of the season will be the Ben Fund Bonanza at Rye House on March 14.

Pedersen will be joined in a star-studded field by the likes of world champion Crump, Australian legend Leigh Adams and SGP newcomer Tai Woffinden.

The event raises money for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund, which helps the shale sport’s stars who are unable to ride due to injuries sustained in action.

The Dane’s diary did not allow him to appear in last year’s event at Sheffield, but Pedersen is determined to take victory on his first ever appearance at Rye House’s Hoddesdon circuit.

He added: “I have had calls a couple of times before but it hasn’t fitted into my schedule. I am very aware of what the Benevolent Fund is.

“I am very pleased that I can fit it in this season. I had a bad leg injury last season myself, but everything is back to normal and I am ready for the new season.”

What he means is he doesnt bounce quite so well these days, its clearly an age thing.
