By allowing a rider who prefers to ride outside this country to participate in the event. Listen, I know you don't rate PC as highly as some of us, but back in the early 1980s the BSPA felt confident enough to say they didn't need PC in their showpiece event. Now they're desperate to have the global superstar in the event, regardless of his attitude to the British scene.

Do you in all honesty consider Nicholls attitude to British speedway worse than those in charge ? I know we have had some fun and banter over Scott, but surely you must agree the the only person who will really suffer from his withdrawal from British speedway is Nicholls himself, and there is every chance he was shafted.

Again, Nicholls says he'll consider quitting if he doesn't make the top 5 in the GPs in today's Swedish paper, www.folkbladet.se/sport . He said: To be in the top five is my goal. If it does not work out I might give it up (the effort to win the world title). It costs so much money and it is not worth it if I only come tenth or eleventh, at least not for me.
I know I'm definitely capable of winning a GP. This year I have lost some weight and I'm in better shape, so it should help me do better.

I'm expecting him to make a decent start and make a bold showing on sunday, but once the GP's kick in and his frailties are again exposed, i'm convinced without the confidence boosting Elite, he is heading for a very poor season.

I didnt think it would be long before the riders opting out of the EL this year would return.
Latest information suggests Jason Crump is about to return and Scott Nicholls might be on his way as well.

Maybe it might help him "sort his head out" as he seems to imply his problems this season are psychological......!!??

Well it is that time, twelfth round and if anything is going to change it will be after they have ridden 12 matches and after the Poole fiasco or just unlucky ha things might change

Overall I'd say the jury's still out. In my mind you have four groups of individuals in the GP: 1) Those that honestly find their form flagging at the end of the season if they choose to: Crump Gollob Pedersen Hancock 2) Those that jumped on the "well if they won't we won't" bandwagon: Nicholls Andersen 3) Those that just choose not to: Ulamek Holta Walasek Saitfutdinov Jonsson 4) Those that still choose to: Harris Lindgren Bjerre Adams Each one of those groups have successes and failures except one i.e. Group 2 where neither rider has succeeded in being either sharper or fresher AT THE MOMENT. It could turn round for either of them but it's a confidence based sport and both of them could/will be so beaten down by the time we get to the 7th or 8th GP that any form of advantage that they may have gained will be wiped out by their lack of form early on. The important thing I see is that the individual CHOOSES to do something (i.e. opt out of the BL) based on a whole raft of how they feel, what their expectations are etc and NOT on the basis of "all the other top boys are doing it so I have to". Of course, the bloke who looks like he may go the other way this season is Adams who may just end up being tired of the GPs by the end of the year. I guess the bottom line is horses for courses and the only real factor that could align this is that of age and experience. If you are young then you should be doing as much riding as you can and as the 'elder statesmen' of the sport then they should be able to scale their domestic campaign down if they find themselves running out of puff. Well, that was a lot of words to just sit on the fence....... Pip
