Rumours rife that Joe Haines is going to be at Rye House in 2009... Replacing Tai...
Haines is definitely stopping in the PL in 2009..
Both Wolves assets and possible a softener to Rye for losing Tai. also good experience for Joe to get regular small track riding..

It would be a wise choice from Haines after the wide spaces of Workington.

Joe haines has signed for rye house confirmed at www.newsandstar.co.uk Joe blow as Comets' whiz-kid moves onBy John Walsh Last updated 11:37, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 WORKINGTON COMETS whiz-kid Joe Haines is moving on – after agreeing a deal with Premier League rivals Rye House. One of the bright young prospects in British speedway is a Wolverhampton asset, and accepted a deal to join the Rockets for 2009. On Friday, Haines had picked-up two trophies at the Comets presentation night – for the rider who had improved his average most and for the one who had won most rider of the night awards. He was a member of the Comets team that won the Premier League Fours and was in the side that clinched the Young Shield, moving up from reserve to second string during the season. Haines only turned 17 in September and last month reached the final of the British Under-18’s Championship, finishing fourth at Scunthorpe. Workington Comets owner Keith Denham said: “We’d heard that he was going to move on and that’s now happened” Team manager Ian Thomas said: “He’s a talented lad but obviously fancies a change of track. We didn’t even get the chance to sit down and talk a deal through with him.” Haines says that he wants to widen his experience and after a year at Derwent Park believes the handling of a smaller track like Rye House will be good for his career. He said: “I’ve enjoyed my season at Workington because the fans have been great. The Comets are the best-supported team in the League and the fans have really given the team, and myself, terrific backing. “I will be going with some great memories of my time at Workington. The Fours win and the Young Shield clincher at Berwick were excellent but somehow I think the win at Sheffield was my favourite moment. “I really enjoyed that meeting and the fact that we’d won there. I came away with a great buzz.” Bolton-based Haines started his speedway career in 2007 with the Scunthorpe Scorpions in the Conference League winning the Championship, the Knockout Cup and the Conference Trophy in his first full season. Wolverhampton signed Haines just after his sixteenth birthday and immediately loaned him to the Comets for the 2008 season. He also rode for Boston in the Conference. ;D

I wonder if Haines is the "one Judas gone" that Keith Denham has apparently posted on the Workington forum?

You have to hand it to "Uncle Len", he seldom hangs around and is usually among the first to have his team all sorted out. I guess King's Lynn will be hard on his heels, they're usually the other early birds when it comes to declaring a team. That line-up doesn't look too bad, although I suspect that it'll be the usual "strong at home, weak away" scenario for the Rockets next season.

It has to be said that line-up looks very good, particularly with the inclusion of Sundstrom, but where has this information come from?

Rye House Speedway: Rockets team all but sorted for 2009.Nov 18, 2008, 20:15
worldspeedway.com
The British Speedway Promoters' Association met in Fuengirola, Spain over the last week-end and put together the rules governing team and league make ups for the 2009 season.
The Premier League members decided to continue their policy of gradual improvement to the quality of their teams by raising the permitted points limit for team building to 42.5, an increase of 1 point since 2008 began.
The Rye House Silver Ski Rockets, having lost the services of teen sensation, Tai Woffinden who opted to ride for his parent club, Wolverhampton in the Elite League and also suffering from the additional loss of Stefan Ekberg who was seriously injured in the Play Off semi final at Kings Lynn in October, have had to make some major additions to their side to plug the huge gap left by the absence of the two leading stars.
At the final meeting of the Rye House season during the staging of the Ace of Herts championship, local fans had the opportunity, along with promoter, Len Silver, to see in action for the very first time the newest teenage sensation from Sweden, Linus Sundstrom who has been the target of at least four Elite League promoters who consider him to be star material.
The Blond bombshell had his 18th birthday 3 days after the Ace of Herts and on the advice of his friend Stefan Ekberg, signed a full contract for the Rockets 2 days later. “I consider Linus to be one of the most exciting riders to come out of Sweden in recent years, an opinion held by all of those who saw him in action in October when he rode in several meetings in the UK. The fact that he opted to join Rye House rather than an Elite club is a hugely beneficial event for us at Hoddesdon and I believe that he will very soon take the place of Tai in the hearts and minds of all Rye House fans. His good looks and Scandinavian blond hair will no doubt make some of our female fans very pleased that he has become a Rocket”
With one of the places filled even before the season ended, a phone call from another teenager at the beginning of November, a few days later, caused the other slot to be filled. This time it was Bolton born Joe Haines who rode for Workington during 2008 and made the decision to become a Rocket for 2009. He had been the target of Len Silver at the end of 2007 and an effort was made at that time to gain his signature, but Wolverhampton beat him in the race and loaned him to the Cumbrian team. Joe himself decided that Rye House might be a good choice as he sought to turn him self into an all round rider, good on both big and small tracks. With the two places in the Hoddesdon team to fill, Joe was the perfect youngster to fill one of the slots.
Yet another surprise packet came the way of Rockets' promoter Silver when his son, Andrew, a top star of the 80's, let it be known that he was interested in racing seriously again and he has been practising regularly at the track since the season ended. He only lives one mile from the circuit and often walks to it so that he can ride his speedway bike.
He has looked quite impressive in the practice sessions and is clearly up to the standard necessary to claim a team spot even though he will have his 42nd birthday before the season begins and has not ridden seriously for 16 years. However, father, Len, and Andrew have both agreed that he must earn his place and will have to show in pre season sessions that he is the man for the job.
Full Team line up for March 2009. Chris Neath (captain) Linus Sundstrom Tommy Allen Robert Mear Joe Haines Luke Bowen 7th place to be decided.
Wolverhampton, who own the contract of Rockets long serving skipper, Chris Neath, have indicated that the contract is for sale and negotiations are at present taking place between Chris Van Straaten and Len Silver for Chris to change clubs on a permanent basis.
Meanwhile Rockets' asset, Stuart Robson, is likely to join an Elite club on a permanent basis in the new season and currently three clubs are interested in his signature.
As Speedway enters the 80th anniversary of league speedway in the 2009 season, the official date for racing to commence was decided as Sunday 15th March and Rye House will run their first event of the year at 2pm on that day in a Premier Trophy match against Birmingham who have already announced that they have retained the services of top Australian, Jason Lyons and who have also announced that they expect to track a side well capable of taking the league championship.
This does not mean that Rye House have moved away from their traditional Saturday race day, but it was necessary to start at the earliest possible date in order to be able to fit in all the fixtures for both the Rockets and the Kart Cobras. Saturdays and Bank Holidays will continue to be the norm.
The reason for Birmingham providing the opening opposition is because the two teams have been drawn against each other in the first round of the KO Cup so will meet in that competition in late April.
Kart Raceway Cobras will be full members of the new league and fans of Hoddesdon based speedway are expected to support the team in large numbers now that it is more professional.
There is the possibility of another Southern based club joining the Premier League in time for the 2009 season and this as yet un named club have been given until January 1st to complete their town planning details. The promoter, who will be named once formalities are completed, comes from a family whose history goes back to the sports' earliest days.
A new league points system is to be introduced for the new season and it replaces the old aggregate bonus point of previous years and the 3 point away win system that was used in 2008 . It is quite complicated at first glance but will ensure that all matches stay fully interesting and competitive right up to the last race and the innovation will add an interest to the sport hitherto unsurpassed. So in future teams will score league points according to their final score with the away team having more points available.
A final reminder to fans that Speedway opens for the 2009 season with an exciting new look team in place on Sunday March 15th at 2pm with Birmingham as the very strong opposition.

looks like uncle Len is looking to facilitate Andrew Silver in on an assessed 5.00 average for 2009...! Could be a very interesting Gamble - that could potentially be the signing of the season - or more likely a unmitigated disaster!!

Rye House Speedway: Rockets' number 7 spot still to be decided.
With the Rye House Silver Ski Rockets team virtually in place for the 2009 season and only the number 7 slot to be formally confirmed, the fans of the Hoddesdon team are the first in the country to be aware of the riders they are to support in the new season.
The final piece of the jig saw depends on the pre season form of Andrew Silver, star of the sport some 16 years ago. Now at the age of 41 he is as enthusiastic as ever and he has been getting himself physically fit to race and is in the midst of a heavy training programme, aided by a top cycling star.
The final decision about his inclusion in the team will take place at the pre-season practice in early March when he will have to prove to the management that he is worthy of a place.
Andrew is likely to join with Harlow born Luke Bowen as they travel together to one or two Northern tracks for heavy practice sessions early in the New Year. The hope is that, as they are likely to ride at numbers 6 and 7, a good understanding will emerge between them to ensure good results in heat 2 of every match.
Meanwhile most of the rest of the team are preparing for their Winter ski trip, in fact Tommy Allen intends to spend at least 6 weeks in the mountains skiing with the clients of Silver Ski Holidays, the teamsponsors. There he is hoping to make friends with the two new boys in the side, the “Blond Bombshell” Linus Sundstrom, and teenage whizz kid, Joe Haines, both skiing for the first time. Linus is due to arrive in Hoddesdon in mid December so that he can set up his UK workshop where he will store and maintain the three machines he will use when riding for the Rockets. The 18 year old Swede will be joined initially by his father who is keen to make sure that his son is properly organised for his first year in the UK.
Advising the “Blond Bombshell” has been his fellow countryman, Stefan Ekberg, who was seriously injured at the end of the 2008 season in a crash at Kings Lynn. The good news is that the back injuries he sustained are now showing rapid signs of improvement and he is now able to walk gently without the aid of a stick. In fact he intends to join Len Silver and Hazal Naylor, the Rye House promoters, together with his wife, Jenny, and their three daughters for Christmas in the Alps. “ I don't expect to get on skis”, he told Len “but I'll make sure that the kids learn to ski so that I can join them as soon as my legs will let me”.
Astonishingly he has already made up his mind to race again as soon as he is fit which is good news for the Rockets, although, of course, he will not be ready for the opening of the season.
The opening of the new racing calender at Hoddesdon will be slightly unusual in 2009. With the official season only allowed to get under way on Sunday 15th March, the Rye House team will be in action at home on that day when they meet Birmingham in a Premier Trophy match.
Then things will revert to normal Saturday racing on the 21st March.“ Had I not used Sunday for my opening meeting, it would have meant that I would have lost a week of the season, and with league commitments for both the Rockets and the Kart Cobras, I have too many fixtures to complete to consider starting so late.” said promoter, Len Silver.”
The Brummies will be very strong opponents to test us to the limit” he continued, “they have signed the newest Australian sensation, Richard Sweetman as well as keeping Jason Lyons as their spearhead, while Adam Roynon will almost certainly be back as well. As we have drawn Birmingham in the KO Cup, this opening fixture will be doubly interesting to both sets of fans, watching how each team fares against the other.”
While all the riders get prepared, work at the Rye House Stadium gets under way with various improvements. First of these is the completion of the new referees' box, especially prepared for the FIM under 21 Qualifying Round due there on May 17th. But fans needs have not been forgotten and the beginning of a large seating improvement has already started, using seats purchased from the Walthamstow Stadium after it's closure earlier in the year. “The installation will take a considerable time as we do a little each week and only part of the final programme will be in place for our opening fixture” said Len Silver, “ but fans will certainly see the difference when they arrive”.

Looking more and more like Andrew Silver will be riding at reserve next season for Rye... as rightly commented on bsf! "Andrew certainly pulled in a few more punters at the Ace of Herts, performed poorly but myself and a few others believe that was how it was meant to be, imagine if he'd pulled off a win or top three, look what average the BSPA would have landed him with. Len knows what he's upto. "Roll on 15th March!!
