Not an IOW fan but from memory it's about 3-4 miles from Ryde pier. Put it this way, you wouldn't want to be dragged there by any bodily protuberances They used to have a free bus from Ryde pier to the stadium, not sure if they still do, hopefully someone else who's been more recently can confirm.

Yep, the bus is still running - what you do Stuart, is go to the speedferry desk at Portsmouth and ask for a "Speedway Flier" - this will get you the ferry, a bus to the track and entrance to the stadium - and don't worry, they do bring you back too, but the bus leaves promptly after Heat 15. What you can do is get the first ferry over, have a pint and a bag of chips on the seafront, and then get the second bus to the track. Enjoy!!

It's a very enjoyable experience and a very nice track in what appears to be the middle of nowhere! ;D
However beware - the interval takes forever (well until the queue for food and drink is exhausted) and the meetings tend to drag on towards 10pm. If you want to catch the 10.15pm ferry (I think that's the time it leaves - it's the second last ferry from Ryde) make sure you're on the bus before the last heat. You can watch it from the top deck of the bus. The bus has been known to leave before the last heat is finished if they're running out of time.
If you miss the 10.15pm ferry you have an hour to wait for the last one. It's a great day out though and you'll enjoy it.

Get the hint, Kev the trip was last week and a bit of a disaster really, rained all day, match cancelled, hotel expensive and a disappointment. still at least we got to see 12 heats at poole the following day.
