I think a lot of people will be keeping their eye on the Monarchs this season A bold prediction ML.......but how nice would it be to rub a certain Paulco's nose in it come October? Kev, I'm starting to fall out with you

Nope. By the way it's Thomas despite how the press release spells it You can see him in action here. That's actually from the 2006 Play-Off meeting between Piraterna and Vetlanda in Motala. That's the meeting I watched him. I was swiftly spellbound as with most Swedish league coverage I have seen. He's a smashing prospect. I'll have to catch him some time. Can sometimes try too hard.

I didn't word that very well - I meant how likely is it that Zetterstrom will be a Monarch next season? He ain't coming: Indianerna's Magnus Zetterström has decided not to ride in Great Britain for the upcoming season. He didn't get an extension of his contract with Somerset Rebels, but had an offer from Edinburgh Monarchs, another Premier League team. Something that he has decided to turn down. -"It was a good offer, but moving my base up to Scotland is a big move which I'm not willing to make at this moment" says Magnus, who despite his decision is positive to British speedway. -"I haven't close the door completely, and can be willing to sign during the season if the opportunity arise. With the exception of Indianerna, Magnus will also ride for Gdansk in the second tier in Poland this season.

Matthew Wethers is Monarchs' signing number 4:
Press Release:
WETHERS BACK FOR SIXTH SEASON
Matthew Wethers will be returning this summer for his sixth year as an Edinburgh rider.
The popular Wethers has been waiting patiently for the call to come, and agreed quickly once it did. Monarchs had a few team options but very few which would not have included Wethers.
In 2007 Matthew lifted the Monarchs’ Rider of the Year Trophy and several other awards. It was his best season so far, with an average of just under 7.
There would have been a lot of unhappy fans if Matthew Wethers hadn’t been re-signed, and the 22 year old Aussie is now the only rider remaining from the legendary championship season of 2003.
Matthew has ridden a few meetings back home in Australia but is continuing his usual habit of having a fairly restful winter before returning for another assault on the UK speedway scene.

Looks a good, solid, young side that the Monarchs have assembled. (Paulco will be after me now ) Plenty of potential in there with Summers, Tully, Jonasson and Fisher. Summers and Tully will be one of the top pairings in the PL IMO. Not sure how many points they have got left, but would Sneddon and Lawson fit?

Yes, Sneddon and Lawson can be fitted in and hopefully announcements will be forthcoming in the next few days. Ok it's plan B, but it's a pretty good looking plan. Don't think Monarchs will win the league, but they've got probably 6 or maybe even 7 guys capable of lifting their averages. Should be exciting this season for sure. Rico

1. Ryan Fisher 2. Derek Sneddon 3. Tomas Jonasson 4. Matthew Wethers 5. William Lawson 6. Aaron Summers 7. Andrew Tully
Good side - certainly capable of the play-offs if Jonasson lives up to his potential.
