Well, the Wolves were once again anonymous in 2007 and finished well down the table, but what does 2008 hold in store for the Monmore club? There appear to be doubts over the continued presence of Peter Karlsson and that probably extends to brother Magnus, who really isn't making any impression at all in the Elite League. It also appears unlikely that the final Karlsson brother, Mikael Max, will return, so for the first time in ages and ages Wolverhampton could be a Karlsson free zone. Talk of the return of world champion Nicki Pedersen appears to be just that: talk. And if Nicki P's demands are as outrageous for Britain as they seem to be for Poland, he might not even feature in Britain next season. Fredrik Lindgren is surely a must and must surely rise to become Wolverhampton's No 1 in 2008, while David Howe would seem to be a certainty for a team place. But what about Billy Hamill? I don't see him as a Wolf in 2008, but you never know. Nikolai Klindt, a major signing during the season although he never rode for the club, should come into the equation for a team place in 2008. He's highly rated, but suffered through injuries in 2007. Major re-construction seems to be required at Monmore Green and here's where we can discuss rumours and fact regarding the Wolves for 2008.

Won't PK mean the continued presence of Magnus K?

No - Magnus has already said he wants to ride in the PL, where he can enjoy speedway and earn some money ;D

Okay, that makes sense - it just hasn't worked out for Magnus K in the Elite League. It's just that I'd heard you only had PK this season on condition that Magnus K was included.

It was rummoured that if Magnus was dropped, PK would leave but Magnus wasnt signed because PK said so! He was signed because we made a cock up. Steve Boxall was meant to sign, leaving just a shade under 4 for the last rider. So we signed Magnus, however he (Boxall) didnt sign so we could of bought a new 4 point rider over. Truth be known, Magnus was all set to go to Edinburgh!

And he'll probably end up with the heathen Monarchs for 2008. Anyway, thanks for the clarification. It's not the first time one brother has used leverage for another brother - it's long been held that clubs signing Tomasz Gollob find they're obliged to sign Jacek as well. Certainly they've always ridden for the same club in Poland and more recently both have been with Vastervik in Sweden.

Except that Jacek Gollob is the elder brother, although there's only a year or two between them.
Jacek Gollob born 27th October, 1969 Tomasz Gollob born 11th April, 1971
So, a belated happy birthday to Jacek Gollob.

Here's an example of the Gollob brothers in action during the 1994 season for Bydgoszcz: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjOD5P2J7aUAnd what an outstanding piece of team riding by Tomasz Gollob, thoroughly bamboozling Tommy Knudsen to earn a 5-1 for Polonia - Polonia Bydgoszcz fans have fond memories of the Gollob brothers scoring 5-1s in Ht 15 during their glory years.

Peter Karlsson has stated that he cant see him doing a full season in England again due to the various race nights and the travelling in and out of the country.
Riding once a week in each country would be his limit and this appears to be the same sentiments of Greg Hancock who has an average just 0.10 higher than Karlsson's at 8.77.
It seems judging by comments by the Wolves promtion that they are looking to get clearance to use both Karlsson and Hancock in a sharing role as the teams #1 rider in 2008.
Despite now being a Grand Prix rider, Fredrik Lindgren has made it clear that this will not stop him riding in this country and has already said that Wolverhampton is the only track he can see himself riding for.
After a great 2007 season, David Howe seems a certain starter in 2008 and many are calling for him to be the team captain as he is always looking at helping the younger members of the team and on numerous occasions team rode the likes of Lawson, Kerr and Karlsson to victory.
They appear to be the top three Wolves are looking at for 2008 while the one confirmed signing for next season, Nicolai Klindt seems destined to start the season at reserve with a 4.00 average.
In the few appearances he made at the end of the season, Klindt struggled to score, but he has the potential to go forward and with Jan Staechmann close at hand, Nicolai has the guiding help to make the break over here.
With 26.98 (not official) used then the three remaining places will be determined by the points limit set for the teams entering the Elite League next season which appears to be just nine tracks.
Names running around for those last three places are Daniel Nermark, Kenneth Hansen, Will Lawson, Adam Skornicki and even the name of Lewis Bridger keeps popping up after being seen practising at Wolves and riding at Redcar in an Open Individual in October.
As for Billy Hamill, well he has dropped riding in Sweden for next season and will again be based in England if he decides to return, but his place at Wolves appears to be under threat and looks more likely to be riding elsewhere with Belle Vue, Lakeside, Ipswich and Eastbourne on the look out for a decent scorer.
Wolves will no doubt wait until after the AGM to announce signings, new and old and where their other assets are left standing regarding the 2008 season.
So it appears at present the Wolves team will be based around
1 Peter Karlsson + Greg Hancock 2 3 Fredrik Lindgren 4 5 David Howe 6 7 Nicolai Klindt

I can't see Lakeside needing Billy Hamill, when you say they are on the lookout for a good scorer I think you underestimate what we already have.

Wolves will no doubt wait until after the AGM to announce signings, new and old and where their other assets are left standing regarding the 2008 season. Wolves are going to announce their second signing on Monday at midday. They're "expanding their asset base with a youngster." www.wolverhampton-speedway.com/news.php?extend.309
