From www.speedwayworld.tvDAVID Howe faces a race to be fit for the start of the new season after crashing in Sunday's ice meeting at Telford. Howe, who took the Wild Card position at last year's British Grand Prix, became involved in an incident with Martin Smolinski in the penultimate race of the team event between England and the Rest of the World. The riders fell at relatively low speed but Howe's foot became entangled in machinery and there was a lengthy delay to enable it to be freed safely. Ironically Smolinski was excluded which meant Howe finished the event with a 12-point maximum, but he was then unable to continue into the British Open individual event, where he would have been one of the favourites. And he now has to ensure his fitness ahead of the start of the season for Wolverhampton, with the first meeting scheduled to take place against Coventry in the Craven Shield on March 17. Howe suffered bad cuts to his foot and was taken to hospital for further attention - but a more serious accident earlier in the day is set to rule Craig Branney out for a longer period.

It was horrible watching the medics trying to release David's foot. You could see the pain written on his face.Dave Watters tells me some skin has gone down to the bone, ouch. :(Really terrible what has happened to Craig both personally & for Workington.

WOLVERHAMPTON'S David Howe will be fit for the start of the new season despite his injury scare at Telford. Howe crashed during Sunday's ice meeting and his foot became entangled in Martin Smolinski's rear wheel - which, of course, included spikes. Howe required hospital surgery and was relieved to discover he would not need a skin graft, which could well have ruled him out of the start of the campaign. He now has the all-clear to continue his preparations and intends to be back on a bike for Wolverhampton's official practice session on March 11. Howe said: "There was a time when they warned me I might need skin grafts because the skin may have died around the wounds. "I felt sick when they told me that because it would have meant I would be out for months and I guess Wolves would have had to sign somebody else. I would have been heartbroken. "As it happens, all the skin was fine and they've operated to clean the wounds up and stitch them. My foot looks a mess right now but as soon as I came round from the operation they said everything was fine and, if I wanted to, I could even be on a bike next week!" From www.speedwayworld.tv

David looked pretty quick at the press day yesterday. I hope his foot has had enough time to heal, and not cause him problems in the future.
Dryml looked good whilst Klindt struggled even out on his own. hmmm I just hope he can get it together.
