Assuming that the Sky Sports website is right, for once, the Sky crew are heading down to the strange and terrible place that is Dugardville this coming Monday for a meeting between the old funhog's Eagles and Rosco's Swindon Robins.
Which means a necessary word of caution for weird worlders not to adjust the contrast settings on their televisions should they spot what they think is an orange Big Daddy in the pits. Your television isn't wonky, that's just the brother of British speedway's uber-boss Terry Russell, who, to be fair, shares his brother's tint.
Where the hell do the Russells holiday? In a nuclear reactor? Or perhaps a uranium mine? Maybe a plutonium storage facility? I wonder if anyone has ever thought to run a Geiger Counter over them? It's just not natural for human beings to be that colour. Maybe they're not human beings? That's actually a comforting thought, is it not?
And nor is this a repeat.
Yes, I know you remember watching an interminable crash-fest between the Eagles and Robins at Arlington about a month ago. But that was the "A" meeting and this is the "B" meeting. Or perhaps it's the other way around and this one is the "A" meeting and the last one was the "B" meeting. That's the sort of logic that makes sense in the crazy world of the Elite League. Anyway, whatever, this is a whole different meeting.
The Eagles lost the Flopster to an injury in that meeting and since they haven't found him, or a replacement, their promising start to the season has dissipated into mediocrity. But they're used to mediocrity down in Sussex.
Having their "star turn" Lewis Bridger finding better things to do than ride for the Eagles (such as chasing glory in a variety of other events) hasn't helped the cause. And nor has Davey Watt's indifferent form due to riding with an injury. But no doubt the old tractor-driving funhog will have his troops fired up for the visit of one of speedway's monied teams.
Expect the Eagles to give no quarter on the tight Arlington circuit.
On the other hand it's been onwards and upwards for the Robins after that defeat at Arlington. The team augmented by the signing of Matej Zagar has been well-nigh unstoppable. And the loss of Jurica Pavlic should be no great handicap, especially around Arlington where he was abject in the earlier meeting. In fairness, he was fairly abject anywhere he didn't make the gate.
And what about the leader of the Robins? This has been a difficult season for Leigh Adams, but his form for the Robins in the watered-down Elite League has been superb. It's just about everywhere else he's been struggling, especially in the GPs. But no doubt the celebrated ten-time Australian champion from Mildura will "keep plugging away, mate".
And speaking of plugs, get those ear ones at the ready and let the screaming commence.
