The first 8-10 heats were utter tripe and had me on the verge of switching off.
Ultimately it got much better, but overall it was nothing more than reasonable racing.
What drugs was Lenny Lyon on when picking gates 2 and 4 in ht 15?? - he then compounded his foolishness by sticking his best rider off the worst gate when 3 pts would have done??
Schoolboy error!!

Why does Pearson continue to say stupid things that make a mockery of our sport ? examples tonight........ Saying(again) there is a massive crowd here tonight as the cameraman is showing us a grass bank with about 5 people on Was watching Chelsea so haven't watched it yet but do chuckle usually when Pearson bigs up the massive crowd as the cameraman pans round to the least populated area.

First 10 heats was pretty much the sort of racing I've seen at the OTA whenever I've visited, and I've been down to Somerset a few times even when Reading haven't been the visiting team. Last 5 heats were the best I've seen at the track. I don't subscribe to this best track in the country stuff, it's a decent enough race track but nothing out of the ordinary imo. Meeting was good enough though once it got into it's stride, ended up with a bit of everything, some good racing, bit of drama, comedy courtesy of uncle fester and a last heat decider. Best action Sky have served up for a while and as Rosepip said, best PL action since the Reading/Rye meeting last season. Thought the ref bottled it in heat 15, Tompinka dropped it twice in my opinion knowing he wasn't going to get round Johnno on the first bend. Also thought Gathercole caused Schrammy to fall earlier in the meeting. But it's swings & roundabouts, being an inactive speedway fan at the moment must be mellowing me, I personally thought Somerset deserved their victory. Was impressed with Darcy Ward, bit cocky but he's a 16 year old aussie, so allowances made. Seems to have his feet planted on the ground and looks a natural on the bike. One last thing..... wtf was that mole cam thing all about?

By the way, I guess Tatum MBE was too busy carrying the global superstar's helmet in Sweden tonight to do his usual Churchill the nodding dog impression on Sky Sports.

I see your listed as having made 9000+ posts Sub, i'm guessing you've mentioned or made reference to Nicholls in about 3000 of them.

Oooogen - but gate 3 was the worst gate. And gates 2 & 4 were more effective than 1 & 3. Johno looked impregnable, so I guess the King's Lynn strategy to get a 3-3 involved getting second and third, in which case you would put the stronger rider off the weaker gate. And Schramm was gating well, so his job would have been to clamp down on Gathercole on the inside. Surely you and Orion are not STILL bitter about Rosco not getting the Team GB job, are you?

I felt the ref bottled it on both occassions in heat 15. Topinka had just been beaten to the corner both times and there was no way back for him.
Enjoyable meeting and well done to Somerset for digging deep and coming through in the end. Darcy Ward looks very special and I can't wait to see him up here.

That's frankly rubbish Rob. Nobody had finished in the first two from gate 4 since ht 8. Yes it has 5 heat wins, but 4 of those were in the first 5 heats!. Gate 1 had become dominant by the end and 3 had been better than 4 in the latter stages. Emil Kramer's gate in ht 14 told anyone with half a clue all they needed to know about gate 4 at that stage of the match. Not at all. True I don't think Rob L is up to the job but I cannot change that perception whilst he dishes up clangers like last night on a silver platter!

It's not exactly scintillating stuff so far, is it? But from Heat 10 onwards, it was terrific stuff - great racing with the result also in the balance. Hopefully next time Sky are due to go to somewhere really tedious like Belle Vue or Ipswich, they'll switch it to Somerset. Up yours too genghis, tedious , might not be the fans favourite track, but it seems it's most of the riders at Foxhall

I thought it was hard stuff from Johnston, to be honest, but Topinka was a bit of a wuss. A rider like Nicki P, Gollob or anyone with some balls wouldn't have let Johnston do as he wanted on the first turn the way Topinka did.
