So the preliminary line-ups are out, and naturally my interest is with the Piraterna-Lejonen meeting. And the league champions are starting their 2009 campaign with a bang, utilising both Nicki Pedersen and Leigh Adams. Usually you'd expect that to be a formidable pairing, but both riders have proved they are beatable lately. I think I'd have been inclined to go for Swiderski instead of Adams, which would have allowed Jedrzejak and Ruud to ride, but I suspect this is about generating interest in front of the Canal+ cameras.
Elsewhere, Henrik Gustafsson has already expressed concerns about riding against his in-form son. The two were previously both Indianerna riders, but Henka moved to Rospiggarna over the winter as he wasn't getting enough outings for the Indians. The father and son will face their first test against each other this week as the two teams meet. Personally, I think Indianerna have a mish-mash of riders, all very capable of scoring well, but all equally as likely to have a bad day at the office. Protasiewicz, and Gustafsson at reserve, looking to be the exceptions, but the home team will need Holta, Walasek and Ferjan to be firing on all cylinders if they are to pick up the points this week. For me, Rospiggarna have the stronger team, but we shall see on Tuesday.
I'm predicting a home win in the Vetlanda-Vastervik meeting. Thomas H Jonasson is missing due to concussion he sustained in an accident last week, but his place is taken by Karol Zabik, who is looking suitably weird this year. I feel Richardson, Crump and Hampel will have the edge over the Vastervik riders, but the away team do look to have the stronger reserve pairing, all depending on how Billy Forsberg fares on his return from injury.
And finally, Scott Nicholls leads the newly promoted Vargarna side, and with Kennett and Shields, an in-form Joe Screen, and Skornicki at reserve, the home team should just about have the advantage in what's potentially a bottom of the league match, although they will have to keep the reins on Kasprzak. The Pole apart, you just get the feeling the rest of the Smederna riders need a little inspiration to perform. But I guess with all that has happened over the winter it would be unsurprising if morale was down.
Join us on Tuesday at 6pm to find out how the teams do.

Two easy home wins, and two meetings difficult to call. Vargarna and Vetlanda should both win comfortably at home. Piraterna - Lejonen seems wide open, will Piraterna build up enough of a lead to hold of Nicki and Leigh after the break? And Indianerna - Rospiggarna is impossible to call, even though Indianerna should be favourites at home. BUT they have a "new" team so home advantage should not count for that much, and Rospiggarna are always a good "team" that often wins on team spirit and solidarity with Father Hancock leading the charge.

And Vastervik will be sweating over the well-being of Forsberg, who has withdrawn after a tumble at Belle Vue tonight.

What on earth is up with Nicki P? As I said, should have had Jedrzejak, Swiderski and Ruud.

I would have expected the "english" team to do better at their "english" track and the likes of Jagus and Kasprzak to struggle there. That wasn't a very good prediction by the looks of things.
