When Terry Butcher joined Glasgow Rangers after the 1986 world cup he found more Argentine shirts worn north of the border than in Mexico. The "hand of God" may have made Diego Maradona a hated figure in England, but it made him a hero of sorts to the heathens. And Scotland has played an important role in the career of Diego Maradona, for it was against the heathens that Maradona scored his first goal for his country way back in 1979 and now he makes his debut as manager of Argentina against the heathens. Typically, since chaos and mayhem surround the little Argentine, his arrival in the heathen city of Glasgow wasn't "understated": news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7732346.stmBut Terry Butcher hasn't forgiven him: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7734017.stm

The little man famously left Butcher for dead on his way to scoring that mesmerising second Argentine goal against England in the Azteca Stadium in 1986 and now he's humiliated him after Argentina's defeat of the heathens last night: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7738866.stmI think Butcher needs to quit trying to beat Diego while he still has some shreds of dignity left.

Maradona's "who's Butcher" comment may have carried more weight if Diego hadn't already announced he wouldn't seek him out after the match. As for Butcher, what a wanker, maybe he should spend a day in a childrens hospital to see whats important in life.

Pele, Zico and Socrates were all better players and that's just for starters. If Maradona was such a good player, how come he performed so badly in the 1986 & 1990 World Cup Finals. In the 1986 final, it was left to his team-mates to see Argentina home, while he was very lucky not to get sent off after a badly-tempered display in the 1990 final. EDIT: I forgot about Rossi. He was also better than Maradona.

As for the world cup finals, in 1986 (you fail to mention that Zico and Socrates who you rate as greater than Maradona failed to guide superior Brazilian teams to a world cup final) the West Germans set out to stifle Maradona but it was still his telling pass that led to the decisive goal, while in 1990 Maradona was carrying an injury that would've ruled lesser players out, yet he still inspired a poor Argentine side to the final where they were cruelly cheated by the Germans.

Rossi's performance in the 1982 final far outstripped that of Maradona in either the 1986 or 1990 final, did it not? He was the star player in the best-ever game of World Cup football - Italy v Brazil in 1982.

Argentina were a disgrace throughout the whole 1990 tournament, their disciplinary record was truly shocking, their tactics were just to maim the opposition to get through. The Germans were deserving winners in 1990.

I can't believe anyone is insane enough to argue that Paulo Rossi was a better player than Diego Maradona.

Who scored more goals in the final of the World Cup?
