Edinburgh hardly appear in a position to issue an ultimatum to Jonasson, since Harkess goes on to say that the "money Thomas gets in Poland accounts for 70 per cent of his income." That leaves Sweden and Edinburgh accounting for 30 per cent. Only one club seems in a position to dish out an ultimatum and, according to one poster on the "Chatzone" yesterday, Jonasson's lie in after last season's Fours at Workington cost him a €10,000 fine from Gorzow.

I would agree with Rico i would take R/R for Thomas around the Dale any day. Mind you him never bloody being there may explain why he hasnt grasped it yet.
I still say a waste of 7.30

And Rye House are usually more than useful around the Scotwaste Arena - not the meeting Edinburgh would want to be missing their rising Swedish star. Yet more cunning fixture planning by the Monarchs ? Everyone claims that r/r for THJ makes them stronger ;D I would definitely expect Thomas to miss out the match at the Dale that week. We are at Somerset on the Wednesday and Sheffield on the Thursday. I can't see him wanting to do 4 matches in 4 days* with an early flight out for the most important one. * 5 in 5 if the Swedish League is running on the Tuesday...not sure if it is.

I really don't see what the fuss is about with this particular absence. At the end of the day both fixtures are pre-season cobweb-blowers. IMO this is nothing more than the promotion making noises to appease the Monarchs fans and is of little consequence. We all know the riders wear the trousers in these relationships. They'll be fawning over him after he flies around Owlerton on Thursday night. Rico They don't appear to wear the trouser in their relationships with the Polish clubs. As for fawning, there is an interesting contradiction in the article, with Harkess apparently making his fury at the situation "crystal clear" to Jonasson and then the reporter saying further down that the Monarchs "must now try and soothe their disgruntled rider". Surely, in the first instance it's the Monarchs who are disgruntled and it should be Jonasson seeking to soothe Messrs Harkess and Campbell? I always said signing Jonasson was a triumph of vanity over sanity.

I really don't see what the fuss is about with this particular absence. At the end of the day both fixtures are pre-season cobweb-blowers. But the fuss continues, with the Edinburgh management seemingly set upon contradicting one another over this remarkably insignificant event. As it stands at the minute, Mike Hunter - Edinburgh's PR guru - was first to the plate with the following: "I would like to correct the impression which may have been gained that Thomas nipped off to Poland on a whim. This is completely wrong. He has been scheduled for some time to be away this weekend and this fact should have been publicised well in advance." Which would've been a perfectly adequate explanation, if only everyone had stuck to that particular line. But they didn't. With Edinburgh co-promoter Alex Harkess apparently telling the local newspaper that Jonasson had "let everyone down", among other things. Back came the redoubtable Mike Hunter, who agreed that the statements were contradictory, with: "I can assure you that this fixture was known about by John [Campbell] and by Thomas's mechanic Cammy back in January. Due to I assume an oversight I was not informed, and I found out when I was at King's Lynn which was a bit late to do anything sensible about it." And then Mr Campbell had his say in the programme for Sheffield's visit to the Scotwaste Arena: ""Thomas decided to absent himself from Ashfield to race in Poland in a challenge match not originally listed on his schedule...". I would humbly suggest that anyone looking for a sortie "away from home" should not utilise the Edinburgh management team as an alibi when selling some story to the wife.

If I was to believe anyone in that shambles of comments it would be Mike.
I certainly wouldn't trust anything that John said....ever....but that might just be me! Maybe John is perfectly reliable and truthful in everything that he says publicly and I just have a personal problem with some things he has said!!
BTW Sub: I believe that you met some of me family on Friday (or it might have been Saturday. I already forgot exactly what they said)...Maybe one day I'll be privileged enough to meet you too!

It would be Saturday - didn't meet anyone on Friday. I met John Campbell (how is that for a poor attempt at "name dropping"?) on Saturday - he's not the "black sheep" of your family, is he? Had a short chat with him ahead of the meeting - he said he was no longer bothered what I wrote on the "Chatzone", but I guess others are a greater concern than that. Other than that it was the usual crowd of Midnight_Lady, DavyH, Merlin and one or two new people, such as KingJamie, Johnny Crawford (and wife) and ChrissySW. Jolly decent time and it would be a privilege to run into you some time, young fellow - just look for someone wearing driving shoes (although I had the loafers on for the visit of the regal Monarchs).

Thankfully not related to John Campbell...just a couple of other JCs.
Jonny Crawford is my brother-in-law, and his wife is (obviously) my sister.

just look for someone wearing driving shoes HenryW, that's slippers to you and me. EDIT: And I'll be in your necks in the woods in mid-May, for the next set of "heathen" derbies.

And the master of invisibility bows out again, hopefully for the final time this season, as Edinburgh announced that German youngster Max Dilger has been signed to replace the piss-taking Swede: www.edinburghspeedway.com/news/article.asp?id=716But, no doubt, if worst comes to worst JDC will be on his knees begging for Jonasson to return so that Edinburgh can claim Rider Replacement for some reason or other.

I would love to be proved wrong, but I suspect the Monarchs have been woefully weakened by this signing. Obviously their hand was forced by THJ's other commitments and the stupidity of a certain Scottish rider, but from what I have seen Max isn't anywhere near the class of Jonasson and will struggle to hold his assessed average which is already well below the REAL average of THJ.

And things get worse with Andy Tully being ruled out for 12 weeks with a broken pelvis I would think that's Andy's season over as well as ours. Speedy recovery to the young man.

Pity - he was great entertainment in the Scunthorpe v Edinburgh match I saw a couple of months ago. Hope he's sensible and doesn't try to rush back before the end of the season. The PL title is now more-or-less decided - a full strength Monarchs might have pushed KL, but they don't stand a chance without THJ and Tully.
