this week on the bsf,a certain poster wrote how he hoped greg hancock would break a leg at cardiff, during the british gp. yesterday someone implied that this poster had been banned from the bsf,i dont know whether this is actually the case, but it brought to mind the whole issue of censorship.
personally i would never wish anyone any ill fortune, and certainly not any speedway rider. i thought the posters comments moronic, and insensitive, but i don't feel that censorship is the way to go.
with this in mind,i am going to adopt as my signature, some wise words made famous by the clash

thanks for the confirmation schumi.
i am very interested to hear the views,of the more intellectual wwos membership, regarding censorship in general.
we seem to have become a nation of "witch hunters" desperately seeking someone we can point the finger at,and accuse of being, racist, homophobic etc.
if somebodys point of view is sick,or bigoted surely its better they have a voice,so the issues can be debated.

It's my view that if you have something to say you should have the right to say it. If others don't agree with you then they are entitled to say so – that’s what makes a discussion. The only thing I have a problem with (and this is only a personal preference) is excessive gratuitous swearing, but I haven’t and wouldn’t remove it – I choose to ignore it.
In the case you refer to on the BSF I think he had a lot of stick from other members and that probably affected him more than the ban. I don’t agree with what he said, but he also claimed it was a reaction to how angry he was – that’s his right.
A case in the chatroom last night – one poster wanted to respond to another, but felt he couldn’t say what he wanted in case he got banned. If you restrict people’s views you’re never going to be able to have a full and sensible discussion. However, and this is again personal – if I saw a thread descending into a slanging match I’d lose interest in taking part in the discussion.

I see Lioness is acting the big "I am" at the BSF again. All rather pathetic really, don't you think?

glad to see i am not the only one who believes in free speech.
the bsf poster in question, backtracked immediately, and i felt he realised how stupid, and unpleasant his comments were.
surely it showed how debate can educate, and improve people's thinking.

Anyway, all the guy really did was break the great unwritten rule: you can't under any circumstances say bad things about the grinning Mr Hancock. You can say pretty well anything you like about Messrs Andersen and Nicki P, but Greg Hancock is sanctified. It matters not a jot that while Nicki P and Andersen have always given excellent service to British speedway, while Hancock has treated it with contempt, cleverly concealed by that grin, for the past few seasons.

it does appear that there is one rule for the chosen ones, and another for the less favoured. Someone else said that to me last week, but being an angel I've not really had any problems - well, unless you count the time the signature police reported me for having five lines instead of four. I must be one of the "chosen" ones. Well, seeing as Subedei got banned for something I'd posted, that's what I assume anyway.

I actually know the poster in question, as soon as I saw it I thought ..oh no...and pm'd him about it( hoping he'd remove it) knowing the reaction it would probably get and it did.......he certainly didn't set out to cause the offence that he did. It's more about the way he worded his discontent at the situation that is the issue here...I spoke to him the next day ( he's my postman) and he knocked the door to expalin to me what he meant( not that he needed to) .He knows what he posted was inappropriate and truly regrets it and not just because he's been banned from the forum.. he is a really decent chap,he made a mistake..I actualy found the ensuing witchhunt more upsetting to be honest( but maybe thats cos I know him) most of which he was able to quote to me...so he was clearly affected by it......
Schumi I've only been posting on bsf since March...it seems an awful lot of threads end up in slanging matches.......bloody shame really because there are often some great points being made...

I received a ban for something schumi posted. i was yellow carded when, someone posted a comment suggesting adam shields was a talentless coward, and( being an admirer of adam's) i responded saying the poster was a dickhead rather harsh i thought
